@boggsy117 For pokies, yes. But still not a beginner T. Especially if you dont want to pay $200+ for a spidering thats less than an inch & that may or may not live to adulthood.
The dark lighting in this vid is just asking for trolls to come on here and be like durr that's not a P metallcaia1!1. Wow. You should air a new one considering this one is 3 years old and theres still self-proclaimed Pokie experts on here telling you its not a metallica. Unless you like the attention and if so then more power to you. The biggest difference between pokies is the carapace, people. Other than the carapace, theyre almost all the same with a few exceptions to color like this species
Well it has a funny resemblence to my 16 p metallicas then. Learn some more about T´s before you tell people what it not is. This is a poecilotheria metallica.
Wouw, alot of people comment on this not being a p metallica. I guess they dont know about poecilotheria then. Because it looks like all my 16 p metallica. but hey, maybe i dont see so well;-)
Man...its quite funny how many T 'owners/experts' there are here saying this isnt a P. Metallica! It sooooo is lol! Yeah the lighting maybe isnt the best but its still easy to tell what we'r looking at. Anyway...not to worry. Great video dude!
no offence meant but i own 2 metallica's , regallis , striata , rufilita and other pokies thats no metallica ... maybe the vid to dark to see colourins but defo looks more like a regallis
@kevgra1 There is no offense as such taken. But given that we are NOT beginner T keepers, we have quite a selection. We KNOW exactly what we have and find it inconceivable that you would think we dont know what that tarantula is.
We still have her and she is very blue in a Duh . . . Poecilotheria Metallica kind of way. Not to be mistaken with all the other 'BLUE' pokies currently available (irony)
If i get time i will edit the video to include some photos at the end to educate folk.
No offense, I agree the vid is dark, but if you claim to own such pokies, then you'd be able to distinguish pokie patterns between a regalis and a metallica. Under NO circumstance this looks anything like regalis. I own all the available pokies in the hobby including the elusive P.smithi and P.hanumavilasumica and I can tell the major differences between each pokie even if I have a dark pic.
no offence meant but i own 2 metallica's , regallis , striata , rufilita and other pokies thats no metallica ... maybe the vid to dark to see colourins
@ultum4tegunz It's risky, yes. Just stay calm and it will too. Don't be stupid and piss it off. Every time you panic and throw it off your hand or something, it will start to associate your han with being thrown, and it won't like that.

i just had my b. smithi sling (my first and only T) run around on my arm for the first time, and i was a bit nervous that he would bite me (but he kept calm)
i think i'd sweat a river with this guy on my hand
How many do you own? You are so good at handling yours, I got a Brazilian Black - Grammostola pulchra because they are supposed to be the easiest to keep for beginners

Blimey. Yours is the strangest response we've ever had. Are you seriously suggesting that we dont know what T's we have ? ? Unless you are joking and it's gone over my head.
It mosct certainly is a metallica. The carapace and folio designs are dead giveaway's... However, I'd not be one to advocate handling them personally.
hmm. fair play an all that there like but wtf chum if you know your spiders then you should know what ANY pokie is like.. your jus askin for trouble. i couldnt give a fuck about you its the wee metallica im worried about. your a ballbag mate i dont care what excuses you make or what you say. you shouldnt have it out like that end of
"Yeah. Fair play and all that...." But if i want your opinion, ill give it to you. In the meantime, keep your spotty nose out of here. Thank you for your co-operation. ;O)
with all due respect, I hope you're expert, although it is known that an expert does not have to handle this kind, a few years ago p.metallica bitten by a woman, and still have problems by the power of the poison ... if you would have more care and leave this in your terrarium metallica
Hey, thanks for your concerns guys. We wouldnt call ourselves experts but we are well aware of the recorded effects of various Tarantulas bites. Some we would say, include 'genuine' details and some very exaggerated. But we care for all our T's very well and are prepared to let them attack us, should they choose too.
these species are not exactly dangerous, but the venom from this genus is known to be potent. it can cause cramps upto generally 1 or two weeks (some claim a month) and possible fevers and nausea and obviously localised swelling. lots of respect for piggy because of the focus and observation they put in their hobby
The first time I tryed to handle a Poecilotheria Metallica, it started ok and she was really calm, then after changing hands she got agitated and jumped in my chest... Somehow I managed to get her unharmed to her place =)
After that I'm postponing poeci handling for some weeks!
There is a certain 'knack' with handling pokies, baboon or any rapid, skitty T's and you really have to focus hands and eyes in anticipation of very sudden bursts of speed.
The location of handling is also of upmost importance. As close to safe soft landings as possible. Especially with noted jumpers like avicularia, cyriopagapus and sun tigers.
Good luck with your gooty. They are a wonderful species.
Yeah man, my g/f pinktoe is a nightmare to handle! She is full grown now and very beautiful, but she LOVES to jump. So as soon as we get her out we stand very near one another so she can jump to one of us if she decides to, until we can get her over our bed!
By the way paul, I love you T collection! It's impressive and I'm totally jealous! I have 4 L. Parahybana juv. I'm raising, a male rose hair, and the pinktoe. I'm a lil more well rounded I guess, I have a thing for fish and aquariums to!
However, we take the responsibility of handling our T's very seriously. It is not a rushed process, we take the time to get to know the individual T 'before' we handle it .
We weigh up the risks. Then we make an informed decision with the full knowledge of the possible consequences should we get bitten.
We do not encourage any one to handle T's unless they have experience. We hope our Vids show, you have nothing to fear from spiders. :o)
i have been looking EVERY where for a gooty saphire, i must say yours is a real jem, i have had no luck in finding 1, just ordered a suntiger (psalmopoeus irminia) to add to my growing collection, its nice to see all your vids
Hi, yes, they are still relatively hard to come by despite the fact that most enthusiasts say they are being bred in large quantities and the price will drop. :o( Beautiful looking spiders but a bit too illusive to be rewarding. We hardly ever see ours ! We also have a large female Sun tiger. An excellent T. We can coax her out of her hide and feed her from tweezers ! Thank you for your resonse and good luck with your 'Nike swoosh'spider. Paul
You're telling me. Kerrie I want to get another T. I was thinking of getting the stromatopelma calceata, or the pokies fasciata or miranda. Which should I go for?
hey did you get your metallica from Tarantula Canada yet? They are actually bigger than 1/2" more like 1.25" so its a really sweet deal. They dont have any blue colour in them yet though.
I got it a while ago. They are much bigger than I had anticipated. Mine has some shades of blue, just exposure her to a bit of sunlight when u want to look at her.
Definetly MIRANDA!! They are both great but the Miranda has a bit more colouration. Even my Ornata has some purple in it so that is a great P. Also P. pederseni is a great one if you can find it. Subfusca is too expensive and too hard to breed, which explains the price.
I can find pederseni. My next pokie will be a miranda, since i have the regalis, ornata, rufilata, metallica, and the formosa, pretty much the lion share of my old world Ts
Tarantula Canada has their Miranda's on for $100 a sling. I think that is the third most expensive next to Subfusca & Metallica. They are beautiful too, more than the Subfusca in my opinion. Subfusca is over-priced due to the fact they are SO FREAKIN hard to breed for some strange reason.
I think that the the Miranda isn´t the third most expensive Spider. There are lot of other spiders which cost much more! Like C.spec blue II, Poecilotheria hanumavilasumica, Poecilotheria smithi, Poecilotheria tigrinawesseli etc.
i got my P.irminia the other day, it has a legspan of about 1 inch but is still a impressive t, im going to a tarantula show in Yeovil england at the end of feb, im hoping to find a Poecilotheria Metallica there??!!
Same here. I'm hunting like crazy for one. I found some in the States, but they never ship to Canada. My P.irminia is about 2 inches, and its starting to get the nice adult colors.
Tarantula Canada my friend. I got two of them last month. They were actually about 1.25" for $200 each. Great deal on them and they are doing just fine.
hey nice p.metallica! where did you get it from and how much did you pay? I really wanna buy one :p i cant seem to find them lol ill pay a lot of money for one of them :p
I have been lookin evrywhere and i cant find any i went all the way to enfield aswell nothing there too! Im willing to pay like 300 pound for one of them and i cant find them =/
thats beautiful... thats the next tarantula i want to get, i already have a rose hair, mexican red knee, green bottle brush and pink salmon birdeater.
You mean green bottle blue. Green bottle brush...funny. At least it does fit. L. parahybana is one of my favorites. They get very large and heavy but are MUCH hardier in captivity than T. blondi. My last one would kick up a huge cloud of hairs at the slightest disturbance. I got a blast on my forearm once. I think I would rather she had bit me. No fun at all.
I have never heard that. They are listed in the literature as Greenbottle blue and that is the proper common name but there have always been widespread discrepancies in common names. That is why I try to stick to scientific names. No room for error. I picked up that habit a long time ago when there was a huge shake-up over common names and all of the arachnid societies were arguing over who would set the standards. It took months for it to shake out to what we have in the literature today.
man thats a really nice spider, its too bad you cant see that purple metallic color it has. i have an indian ornamental, and you have some serious nuts to handle that species.
Thanks for your comments. Yeah, it is a shame the footage comes out too dark, but we will be trying again soon with hopefully better results. All the best.
Man. I have been keeping and studying spiders and scorpions for over 30 years and P. metallica is one of the most stunning species ever to become available. I have always loved Pokies and this species is my absolute favorite. When I started, B. smithi was the only species available and it was mistakenly called the Mexican Red Leg. Yours seems to have a very docile temperment. All of mine have been very skittish. Not aggressive, just fast and unpredictable.
Out of my 18 tarantulas, my B.smithi, E.campestratus and and my adult curlyhair are the only ones that I can handle without major problems. They can be a bit skittish, my boehmei is perhaps the most but thats normal for brachypelmas. Grammostolas IMHO, are moody tarantulas. My pulchra is very defensive, my rosea to an extent, and my sweet aureostriata has become a devil.
I know what you mean, when we first purchased her she was mental, running all over the place. Desperate to hide away. But as luck would have it she calmed down. Our Pokie can be a little skittish too when we first get her out, but not for long. ;o)
Both of those are lovely looking T's, if i had to choose it would be the Psalmopoeus cambridgei, only because we have a have P.irminia (Sun Tiger) and she is lovely (with her red nike ticks ;o)
Ya, I call that one the SWOOSH spider. I'm leaning towards the formosa, because it's rare and cheaper ($55 for 1/2inch, but they do have a $200 2 inch female. The cambridgei is 3 inch female and goes for $80 but theyre mostly brown with the red feet. Im adding H.maculata, c.cyaneopubescens and p.ornata so right there its $100 total. What do you think?
Wow $100 for those 3 spids is a real bargain !! we have a green bottle blue and she's soo docile. Very nice T's. Be sure to video them if you get them. we'll do more of ours soon. Take care :o)
YA, well all of them are 1/2 inch except the ornata at 1 inch. Im also considering a rufilata or a miranda. Which do I choose, the cambridgei, formosa or those 2?
If you can find one, Ephebopus cyanognathus are awesome-looking. They can be a little difficult to raise from spiderlings though. You need pretty high humidity but good ventilation as well.
They are nice, those blue-fanged skeletons, especially as slings. My online dealer has those, tho they're are pretty expensive ones for 1/2 inchers. High humidity/good ventilation can be at times pretty difficult. I have to tend to my sick M.robustum, I just changed the substrate. She appears to be in premolt but I think its about to die sadly :(
Is pretty wonderful..... and are so difficult to acquire.... u are really lucky!!

You're telling me. Kerrie I want to get another T. I was thinking of getting the stromatopelma calceata, or the pokies fasciata or miranda. Which should I go for?
Jon3800 4 years ago
P. Miranda are very pretty. Also look at P. subfusca. Good Luck.
piggy237 4 years ago
Im actually Picking up the P.metallica next Friday. They're on sale at a really good price :)
Jon3800 4 years ago
Really good price. How big and how much ?
piggy237 4 years ago
1/2 inch at $200 canadian
Jon3800 4 years ago
hey did you get your metallica from Tarantula Canada yet? They are actually bigger than 1/2" more like 1.25" so its a really sweet deal. They dont have any blue colour in them yet though.
SMISURKA 4 years ago
I got it a while ago. They are much bigger than I had anticipated. Mine has some shades of blue, just exposure her to a bit of sunlight when u want to look at her.
Jon3800 4 years ago
Definetly MIRANDA!! They are both great but the Miranda has a bit more colouration. Even my Ornata has some purple in it so that is a great P. Also P. pederseni is a great one if you can find it. Subfusca is too expensive and too hard to breed, which explains the price.
SMISURKA 4 years ago
I can find pederseni. My next pokie will be a miranda, since i have the regalis, ornata, rufilata, metallica, and the formosa, pretty much the lion share of my old world Ts
Jon3800 4 years ago
Tarantula Canada has their Miranda's on for $100 a sling. I think that is the third most expensive next to Subfusca & Metallica. They are beautiful too, more than the Subfusca in my opinion. Subfusca is over-priced due to the fact they are SO FREAKIN hard to breed for some strange reason.
SMISURKA 4 years ago
I think that the the Miranda isn´t the third most expensive Spider. There are lot of other spiders which cost much more! Like C.spec blue II, Poecilotheria hanumavilasumica, Poecilotheria smithi, Poecilotheria tigrinawesseli etc.
In Germany the Mirandas are not too expensive.

okeneins 4 years ago
Thank you and NO never.
piggy237 4 years ago
thats beautiful... thats the next tarantula i want to get, i already have a rose hair, mexican red knee, green bottle brush and pink salmon birdeater.
thewitness26 4 years ago
You mean green bottle blue. Green bottle brush...funny. At least it does fit. L. parahybana is one of my favorites. They get very large and heavy but are MUCH hardier in captivity than T. blondi. My last one would kick up a huge cloud of hairs at the slightest disturbance. I got a blast on my forearm once. I think I would rather she had bit me. No fun at all.
omcx1 4 years ago
actually here they are called green bottle brush... but i have heard the name green bottle blue.. mine is all rite very easy going.
iv been erticated on by my mexican red knee but since then shes calmed down and i hold her now
thewitness26 4 years ago
I have never heard that. They are listed in the literature as Greenbottle blue and that is the proper common name but there have always been widespread discrepancies in common names. That is why I try to stick to scientific names. No room for error. I picked up that habit a long time ago when there was a huge shake-up over common names and all of the arachnid societies were arguing over who would set the standards. It took months for it to shake out to what we have in the literature today.
omcx1 4 years ago
it fits because its sometimes called Greenbottle Brush, and more commonly called Greenbottle Blue.
shadowpulse44 4 years ago
Some nice T's you have. x
piggy237 4 years ago
man thats a really nice spider, its too bad you cant see that purple metallic color it has. i have an indian ornamental, and you have some serious nuts to handle that species.
acorn308 4 years ago
Thanks for your comments. Yeah, it is a shame the footage comes out too dark, but we will be trying again soon with hopefully better results. All the best.
piggy237 4 years ago
Ha ha ha, you guys have the same bed and the drawers than as!(Malm...IKEA :):):) )
JackREst 4 years ago
Hey !! So your very poor as well ? ?
Only kidding, we love Ikea and our Spiders all live in converted 'Expedit' units. Pukka !
piggy237 4 years ago
I love the designs of IKEA!!!! They are so nice and minimalist style,as i like :)
Im from Spain but im living currently in the states, and IKEA just open doors at my city :)
JackREst 4 years ago
Not aggressive, just fast and unpredictable.
omcx1 4 years ago
Out of my 18 tarantulas, my B.smithi, E.campestratus and and my adult curlyhair are the only ones that I can handle without major problems. They can be a bit skittish, my boehmei is perhaps the most but thats normal for brachypelmas. Grammostolas IMHO, are moody tarantulas. My pulchra is very defensive, my rosea to an extent, and my sweet aureostriata has become a devil.
Jon3800 4 years ago
I know what you mean, when we first purchased her she was mental, running all over the place. Desperate to hide away. But as luck would have it she calmed down. Our Pokie can be a little skittish too when we first get her out, but not for long. ;o)
piggy237 4 years ago
I want one so bad but its around $400 here. Im actually adding 4 more Ts. What do you think of psmalopoeus cambridgei or poecilotheria formosa?
Jon3800 4 years ago
Hello Jon,
Both of those are lovely looking T's, if i had to choose it would be the Psalmopoeus cambridgei, only because we have a have P.irminia (Sun Tiger) and she is lovely (with her red nike ticks ;o)
piggy237 4 years ago
Ya, I call that one the SWOOSH spider. I'm leaning towards the formosa, because it's rare and cheaper ($55 for 1/2inch, but they do have a $200 2 inch female. The cambridgei is 3 inch female and goes for $80 but theyre mostly brown with the red feet. Im adding H.maculata, c.cyaneopubescens and p.ornata so right there its $100 total. What do you think?
Jon3800 4 years ago
Wow $100 for those 3 spids is a real bargain !! we have a green bottle blue and she's soo docile. Very nice T's. Be sure to video them if you get them. we'll do more of ours soon. Take care :o)
piggy237 4 years ago
YA, well all of them are 1/2 inch except the ornata at 1 inch. Im also considering a rufilata or a miranda. Which do I choose, the cambridgei, formosa or those 2?
Jon3800 4 years ago
Im getting them tomorrow :)
Jon3800 4 years ago
Fab! I hope they are all in good condition. Have fun!
piggy237 4 years ago
I just posted them
Jon3800 4 years ago
If you can find one, Ephebopus cyanognathus are awesome-looking. They can be a little difficult to raise from spiderlings though. You need pretty high humidity but good ventilation as well.
omcx1 4 years ago
They are nice, those blue-fanged skeletons, especially as slings. My online dealer has those, tho they're are pretty expensive ones for 1/2 inchers. High humidity/good ventilation can be at times pretty difficult. I have to tend to my sick M.robustum, I just changed the substrate. She appears to be in premolt but I think its about to die sadly :(
Jon3800 4 years ago
Gorgeous!
Very nice looking T.
Id love one but think i better stick with the ones i have lol
