His vocals are awesome, brutal but natural screaming n clean but full clean vocals AND everything instrumental is really well-done. This guy is fucking impressive!
I really love how Ihsahn portrays his emotions through his work. He can take technical music that, to others, would be just really cold and monotonously expected, and make it into an emotionally filled technical masterpeice. He captures the true flow of how emotions can move. He's definatly my favorite artist. Emperor was amazing as well.
this song actually reminds me alot of neurosis... always a good thing as neurosis is incredible. just like this song. im surprised to hear this from a black metal musician. but i guess it just goes to show how diverse ones musical ability can be. bravo Ihsahn. u truly are a remarkable musician and have all my respect (not that i didnt respect u before :D)
The music is great, If someone has discovered the chords or some riffs, please post !!
The lyrics give me the idea of Friedrich Nietzsche, and the belive of nothing after life, strange that his legacy remained and he is greater after his dead. As an atheist I really enjoy the hole album, Ihsahn's music in Emperor and as solo are great inspiration.
for a christian, and to hate black metal, and still have such an admiration for ihsahn and quality shit like this , makes you ok in my book! But come on dude! your from fucking norway! drop your religious hypocrisy, love all music, whatever your preference. You will die a happy man. Amen!.....
As a Christian myself, I don't think having certain religious leanings would mean that you automatically lose admiration or appreciation for something like this. As a musician I have NOTHING but respect for this quality music that Ihsahn is releasing (alot of black metal types are typically musical elitists and it refrshing to see someone who so totally goes against that.
Ihsahn and Mikke have both found a great oppskrift(can't remember the english word for it) for writing music. Opeth and Ihsahn should go on tour together. Opeth representing the fire and Ihsahn representing the ice. Their like brothers musicwise, but sound different. Emperor is dead, they were great(and are) but if they start playing again I doubt the same atmosphere would be there
I love Ihsahn, and he's such a great guy(though he doesn't always seem that way through his interviews) I get that you think he sounds alot like Åkerfeldt musicwise, and I agree, but I understand it. Alot of my music is inspired by Opeth and sounds like it. As all music which is intensivly inspired by other music, but as long as it doesn't sound like the same band it's great I think. The more great bands out there, the better.

meh, not too impressed, he needs to realize its time to get emperor back together....that's where he belongs. He thinks hes Mikael Akerdfelt in this or something...
I don't know if it would hold together too well if Ihsahn (Band) went on tour with Emperor--- or even with Zyklon for that matter. The other two members from Emperor took their love of gut-punch death metal styles to the next level, where it seems like Ihsahn (to me at least) took the melody-metal path of bands like Borknagar, or more noticeably, Opeth. Eh?
This album is my favorite album of time. It's flawless.

@FLIPPITYFLOOP plus then emperor also covered a death metal song in Darkthrone's Cromlech. again, lots of diversity. Kudos to you

Mikael should have put his vocals over this track...

Ihsahn's vocals do the job quite well. Why people are never satisfied ? If you don't like this, go listen to something else.
korneye 2 years ago 22
As if Mikael adding some vocals would have HURT the track. Amazing.
