  • I don't think it'll last long.

I like the idea of gender neutral toilets basically because of the funny looks I get in public toilets.

People often think I've got the wrong one.

So gender neutral toilets sound OK to me, but you've got to have the traditional male and female toilets as well.

This idea in the Manchester Uni won't work.

There will be voyuers and pervs who will use this to their advantage and abuse the situation, to get a "quick peek", and that's why I don't think it will last.

  • @weegerri1sm Perhaps the real solution is to provide more singular restrooms instead. But that's probably not cost effective or something.

  • @TekLok

Yeah.. good idea but logistically and financially, gonna be a nightmare!

  • I agree, too often the trans community brings unecessary problems on to themselves. You can't force people to accept you. The more you push yourself on to others the more they will rebell against it.

Have you ever noticed that many people who dislike a group of people such as gays, or blacks will make an exception? "Bill is o.k. though." The reason is that "Bill" has learned to get along instead of holding a chip on his shoulder. Something to consider.

  • having ONLY gender neutral toilets is an issue buy itself, for some reason we have men ans women toilets separate..but there could be some near the tradicional and disabled ones, in some places.question is if it is justified or not, being a monority as you sad.hmm..

  • The problem with your rant isn't that a majority of trans people cause problems, it is that an overwhelming number of "normal" people refuse to treat trans people like humans. Trans people are the butt of jokes consistently, victims of senseless violence etc etc. No wonder a lot of trans people have the idea that EXTREME is the only way to approach things. They are conditioned into that by straight/normal society that just don't listen to reason. Sad, but true.

  • @CathiiScott Yeah its like hide quietly or fight hard. Maybe some don't get the chance to live peacefully in the middle.

  • I posted this story on a forum a day or two ago. At the time I was feeling like yeah it was a great idea and opened up the discussion on gender variation. But after time reflecting on it and after watching your new video I am coming down on the side that it may not have been a good idea. Perhaps the student union or whoever was responsible have done more harm than good to themselves and gender variant people. It is simply trans arogance. I do love your new glasses and your hair is nice too.

  • Fanks for the complements.

I think it just could have been handled differently.

  • I agree with you that if a place were to change all their men's and women's bathrooms to "gender-neutral", this would cause controversy where it most likely wasn't needed. Most places which get large numbers of people and/or have multiple stories, have multiple bathrooms, so it would be simpler to simply choose one of them to be "gender-neutral". From the news article, I can't tell if they simply changed one set of bathrooms, or all of them. But it wasn't the whole university, just the union.

  • THIS WAS HIGHLY EDITED BY BBC

as chair of Leeds met LGBT i strongly support manchester uni's decision.

Also well done for their womens officer standing her ground agaist an obivously bias BBC reporter

if the BBC was neutral like they are ment to be. they would have included the qoutes from students saying they were happy the toilets had been de-genderised

  • well i suppose the problem with the news is that it is a narrative construct as well as reportage.

The decision is one way our the other, I would prefer toilets just to be toilets meself - but where you saw standing ground, I saw picking pointless fights.

  • Do you think if we had unisex toilets this wouldn't need be an issue?

I'm against the "de-gendered" toilets. I personally feel uncomfortable using some public toilets because of their construction which leave me feeling exposed. The university has not got rid of the male/female toilets and replaced them with unisex toilets, they have just removed the gender classification allowing anyone to use either toilets.

Well designed unisex toilets would allow access for all and are THE solution.

  • I personally couldn't care less about unisex toilets one way or the other. I just do what i have to do, clean my hands and skedaddle.

the point is, that problems have been caused where they neededn't be.

  • So true, and very encouraging. Great video <3
