So.. If you sold a gas to electric generator as 100% efficient you get sued for fraud. If you sold an electric motor as 300% efficient you get sued for fraud. But if you claim 230 miles per "gallon" on an electric car its ok. Something smells really bad here.
The one video claims only around 40 mpg with the volt. I think it all depends on the package with warranty, options, comfort, safety etc. I wouldn't own a volt unless I won it. Let's see what happens with the battery packs in a few years. But that time flies by fast and not much improvements have been made so far.. I believe they're hiding something and or the Arabs bought the rights.
I am a truck guy but I like the volt and the idea of not having to buy gas for traveling back and forth to work. But seriously, how do you go from 230 mpg down to whatever it is now (90, 60, 40)? Seems to me someone was trying real hard to pull the wool over the publics eyes and that's just uncool. Who knows what else they are lying about...
The Chevrolet volt is not 230 MPG. That range is so ridiculous it sounds like someone winning a 250 Million dollar lottery ticket on TV. It is so ridiculous you don't even celebrate!!! I'm serious OMG!!!
That MPG is given by the guys at the EPA. They have found an error in their calculation. They have corrected it to 125 mpg. And 125 mpg is a whole lot better than 25 mpg we are all getting in our cars right now.
It costs 41k for a reason. Its a very high quality car. Not just the technology put into making it. But the Technology you get with it. I only wish they would add the braking system that recharges the electric battery (like the prius) but this car in my opinion is worthly of the Most Economical Car to this date. It completely beats the Prius in my opinion
That is nice and all but I want a car that needs 0 gas forever the only oil In the car is for the engine thats it. Also I want it to be affordable to the normal average person. Like less than $20000 would be nice. Till that happens which should have happend a long time ago I won't be impressed by any car maker.
What I worry about is that I haven't heard about the Leaf being produced. Chevrolet has been building the Volt and they have 20 built already by hand. Does Nissan have any built?
honestrunescaper: There are only 20 Volts available? Big whoop! You may as well say that the EV1 was in production.
Nissan has in production 1,000 Nissan Leaf vehicles for fall 2010. Nissan is also installing approximately 2,500 public charging stations throughout the United States so that people won't be confined to charging at home.
I for one am impressed with the Volt. If you think about current hybrids, their design relies very little on electric drive. Most of the work is still done by the gas motor.
With EREVs like the Volt, the car is 100% electric drive. The genset is no longer physically attached to the drive wheels. Electricity is the only thing that turns the wheels. That means as energy storage devices evolve, the Volts EREV design can keep up.
It is the logical next step in the evolution of the automobile.
Indeed also what has me very interested is the paper batteries that they have been working on for the last few years involving carbon nano fibers which may be available for use soon hopefully which would greatly help the evolution of the electric car by providing much lighter and longer lasting not to mention cheaper batteries.

So 230 MPG, but how much are you spending on electricity?
David12King 1 year ago
230 mpg? How about EPA's 60 mpg rating. Overpriced piece of shit of a car.

Louis69: You should take a look at the all-electric Nissan Leaf that will be coming out soon.
In response to the Volt's "230" ad, Nissan said that the Nissan Leaf will get an "equivalent" of 367 mpg.
The Nissan Leaf will probably be around $25K. Most people who are into "eco" cars couldn't buy a $40K Volt if they wanted to.

I will check that out sounds good.

@Louis69 if you live in the state of CA, the additional tax credits you receive makes the Nissan LEAF the car that you speak of.
