It may sound to you all a bit strange but until today I had never heard of Altan. I've seen them today on France 24, and although I'm been for some years a passionate fan of the Chieftains, Altan are the definition of what I like about Gaelic music. Brilliant!
Thanks for creating/playing such a beautiful music!
I had the wonderful privledge of seeing and meeting Altan. My family had a wonderful time and I love to experience their music over and over. I hope they can come back to Texas again.
Absolutely glorious! I've been in love with Altan's music since the first time I heard "Donal Agus Morag/The New-Rigged Ship" on Narada's Celtic Odyssey. What an incredible group of musicians and they make it look so easy here.
Very nice. I like gaelic music, traditional Irish music. Altan is brilliant. i m looking for "An cailin gaelach"song on youtube, but it´is not here :( . (Sorry my little english)
I wish everybody had an Irish heart and could appreciate this music as much as I do, but guess if you've listened and are reading this you're nearly there.
I love this song T__T it makes me feel, i dunno it's like if the song itself could bring memories even the first time you heard it, that was how I felt the first time i heard it, and i still getting the same feeling
This music touched me... such a wonderful music! It's like... you know... if I heard somthing like this before but I cannot remember... It's so hard to explain!
That was the late great Frankie Kennedy. This is Ciaran Tourish, who, as far as I know, doesn't play the flute. I've heard that Altan chose not to find another flute player after Frankie died.

Oh, and you should be better than Ciaran, Frankie was great actually the best but tell me something can you play in the same way than Ciaran does, or can you play the violin like him in King of Meenasillagh/Lamey's/The High Fiddle Reel if not shut your fuck up!!
I don't know enough about instruments to say, but the instrument on the album version must be different; it sounds much deeper than the one in this live performance.
Lovely song, thanks for uploading.

I love the way the music builds. Altan are a brilliant band who deserve wider appreciation than they receive.

That's the way I feel about many of their numbers. This one can be found on their album "Altan" and also on "The Best of Altan."

It was too hard on Mairead to make this kind of substitution, I think.

the whistle is just a good old-fashioned whistle. Tin whistle do come in a couple of different keys.

Yes, but that was Frankie when he was still alive. This is Ciaran on the whistle.
