I loved this performance and I love Mariah Carey, but it's funny because I did notice that Mariah kept pausing a lot in the beginning phrases of the song to gain more breath as she sang, Singing is interesting because some singers have light, pretty voices while some have powerful, belting voices, and then some are blessed enough to have a combination of both. I have always felt that Mariah's voice is more light and pretty, although she can belt when she wants to.

her voice was still there just a little struggle, people can't keep judging it off from that oprah performance which happened in november which doesn't represent all of 1997. She recorded butterfly in 97 and she sung powerfully and beautifully throughout. Now 1998 was when the change happened, her voice became really raspy but still good.

I heard more on Rainbow & down hill since. This is the reason why she does no effort required Hip/Hop R&B. I respect Mariah. She's given me some of my greatest memories. But they did get Whitney together on I Look to You.
