  • I am sad that Judy died by drugs but I don't think it's fair to say she just got hook on drugs it was mgm's fault said she was to fat so put her on drugs

  • LOve this .. its the best version... some of the others are too slow for me...

  • Gosh Judy garland was amazing!!!

What a wonderful voice!!!I don't think no one can sing as good as her

Music just isn't like it was back then..

  • love you Judy forever!

  • So beautiful I can barely stand it, if that makes any sense.

  • Very nice mama but I like your daughters version much, much better.

  • @RicASpur Which daughter?

  • Patsy Cline wanted to record this song.. Sad she didn't get to.

  • beautiful

  • Auto-tune can suck it, this is real singing folks!

  • Cool, but I prefer Ella Fitzgerald's rendition, personally.

  • Amazing. It's a shame what music has turned into. I liked to hear one of today's artist sing a throw back song like this this with no studio, no fixing, no nothing, and sing it just as beautiful and then I'll believe in music again.

  • I'm pretty sure Lena Horne was supposed to sing this song in this tribute but she didn't show up. Judy was well known to be a quick study and learned the song in less than an hour to sing in Lena's place...how many singers today could learn a song that quick AND sing it flawlessly for a national audience?

  • thank you so much i have been hoping to find her singing this song for a long time gracious

  • Adoro

  • @gfks11 Judy had a marvelous way of putting a song across.

It is a shame the final years of her life were so sad and that she got

    hooked on drugs and booze.

  • @Fegen Very sad indeed...and in fact MGM is to blame for putting so much pressure on her to maintain a slim figure and work long hours. They gave her the uppers and barbituates -- shame on them for treating such an artist like a workhorse. (Not that I approve of animal cruelty either.) :) She was just lovely, classy, and so talented.

  • judy looked pretty hot in this photo and the song is pretty decent too

  • full versoin?

  • Her voice suits the low notes.

  • Love Judy!

  • Judy was supposed to play Julie in Show Boat but left MGM before the picture was made.

  • Judy sounds good, but her voice just doesn't fit the role of Julie. The whole point of "Julie" singing this song is that it shocks everyone that a white woman could sing not only a "black" song, but like a black woman. Judy's version is too show tunesy for me; it lacks soul.

  • oh my god this just became my most favorite version ever!!!!! this song is perfect for her

  • god, her voice always gives me chills; everytime I hear her sing "over the rainbow" as an adult (I think it was for carnegie hall or something), the raw emotion in her voice always makes me wanna cry. she was such a powerful performer, I hate that her life had to be so screwed up. thanks for posting! (gorgeous photo too.) I love Judy!! =)

  • Wow, what a great rendition...1944...perfect time for Judy....She can handle anything and makes the song her own, instantly!

  • this haunts me, for some reason I can't seem to stop listening to it.

  • LOVE!

  • Had Patsy Cline lived, she would have recorded this song on an upcoming album :(

  • absolutely breathtaking.

  • wow I just watched ava gardner sing this ava can't even touch judy garlands voice.....

  • In the movie Ava was dubbed. Still, this is freakin' Judy Garland so it's hard for anyone to top her. She was so amazing.

  • I LOVE JUDY

  • What an amazing talent, Judy was. One of the greatest, for sure, and like many exceptionally talented artist was perpetually at war with herself. But who knows? Without that we may never have had this legacy we can now enjoy with wonderment.

  • You know, there were talks of having her play Julie in the early stages of poduction of 1951 remake of Show Boat, but unfortunately, her erratic behavior, nervous breakdown and subsequent firing from MGM ended any hope of realizing such a project. Ava Gardner was good, but Judy would have been great. It's too bad, there were so many great projects I would have loved to see Judy in that, for one reason or another, never came to be.

  • I remember hearing that also- can you imagine? Judy was often, at best, representative of the tragic, the poignant, the character pathos in films. Had she been in the decent health she displayed at the time of 'Easter Parade' or 'In The God Old Summertime,' the 'what if' possibilities are endless. She did the Kern music well; she had also previously recorded 'Bill' when she was still singing as a youngster.

  • yes, apparently it looked like they were pretty much tayloring the production as a vehicle for Judy. Would have loved to see that! Also, after seeing lena horne in til the clouds roll by singing this song as Julie, I regret that she never got to play the roll either in a movie or on stage.

  • Judy Garland looks so beautiful here.

  • May I have the full version as well please?

This is one of the most beautiful songs in the world. I am so happy to have found a Judy Garland version.

  • i have the entie tribute uploaded on here...it's titled Philco Radio Hall of Fame - Jerome Kern Tribute

  • Can't help lovin' dat Judy... (sigh). P.S., don't forget to send the whole medley to me when you upload it! :-)

  • I love this sung by Judy....Thanks for posting....but why does it end so suddenly?

  • it's part of a medley honouring Jerome Kern...i plan to upload the whole thing eventually

  • Not many people know that Judy ever sang this song. ... Fabulous!

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting it. You are The Best! :-)
