This one was a real head-scratcher. How could Idaho come from 5th place to beat Kentucky, the clear front-runner? I think she was just lucky. At the last minute, the judges may have thought that Idaho was the most "teen" looking.

Brandi Sherwood also lucked out at Miss USA. She barely made the final 6, then wound up 1st runner up. Once Brooke Lee became Miss Universe, Brandi became Miss USA. That's one lucky girl.

And yes, she's had rhinoplasty (a nose job) and a lip job.

@PageantryGuy How do you know she came in 5th place in placements?As they say there called in no particular order,you have to be an insider or a judge to know that.At Miss Usa the same thing how do you know she had the 6th highest score?There not called in any order.!!!She became Miss usa not by luck but because,a rule states if Miss USA wins miss universe,the 1st runner up is the miss USA.

the scoring system for this pageant is base on ranking the girls. after the top five are selected, the judges then rank them not knowing how each girl were scored. so apparentely brandi was well liked.

fyi brandi sherwood was born and raised in idaho. trust me, i know. im from idaho myself. yes, she barely made the top 5 but won the judges over with the final question. all previous scores were erased after the top 5 were made.

Kristi swept the semi-final interview, swimsuit, AND evening gown competitions. Brandi placed 5th, 5th, & 7th respectively. Kristi entered the top 5 in 1st place. Brandi squeaked in at 5th. Kristi gave a stronger answer to the final question. HOW did Brandi win?
