It's funny that Arsenio was considered sort of an upstart when he was on the air, the opposite of someone like Johnny Carson. Yet watching him in retrospect, he is very thoughtful and sincere in his interviewing style. It's practically like watching a cooler Tom Snyder, and I mean that as a compliment. These days *every* talk show just absolutely panders, no matter the host's age or race, just constantly mugging and "on" for their trained seal audience, and it's just so tiresome to watch.

@WastedPo I find Craig Ferguson does his interviews very well, and he knows when someone needs assistance or a prodding to get a story out, or to work awkwardness from the conversation. The guy is a master at it, and deserves a better timeslot.
