    Cheers

  • It's from neither, watched bother series many times, 100% positive it's from neither

  • Yeah it's strange

  • it's from something before both The Office and Extras - a 30min show named Golden Years (named after the Bowie track of course) and was part of a series by channel 4 looking for new talent. The series of individual shows was a sort of contest and the one show that got the best reception got made into a 6 episode series - unfortunately for Ricky and Stephen Golden Years didn't win the contest but instead they got the chance to work on a new sitcom for bbc 2... and so The Office was born...

  • His voice does sound like david bowie's, especially when he was younger.

  • Thats Stephen Merchants dad at 0:12

  • he could have said- wallow in the sorrow that is titanic!

  • Haha I love the way he says Bow-ey. I say Bow-e, like bow and arrow.. Is Bow-ey, as in 'take a bow' correct?

  • No. David himself says his name like Bowie (bow and arrow) so that's the right one.

  • Thanks!! =]

  • I'm sure Bowie actually said he doesn't mind, as its not his real name anyway.

I personally say as in take a bow.

  • The thing i don't like about that pronunciation is that it means his son's name is effectively Zoë as i assume Zowie rhymes with Bowie where as with the other pronunciation it a rather more awesome sounding name....I mean sure its still no Moon Unit. :P

  • i say it like bow and arrow as well

  • Well, he got the teeth right...

  • ... that guy at 1:47 kinda' looks like Jamie Theakston

  • LOL !

He should have said "Titanic In Detroit "!

  • WOW!

    What's this from?

  • The Office (UK)

  • um... then why'd they call him Clive?

  • OK sorry, according to Wiki, it's from "Golden Years". I think his character is so like David Brent that G Y wasnt terribly memorable.

  • lol- thnx.

alot of his characters are like David Brent (e.g. Andy Milman, Dr. McPhee, Bertrum Pincus. etc)

    lol

    thnx

  • andy millman isn't like david brent

    either is bertrum pincus

millman and picus though are slightly similar

and i dont know who dr mcphee is

  • I didn't mean exactly like him.

I meant they all have those little awkward moments like David Brent. most of them not as much though lolxx

  • Let's Spend The Night to Remember Together?

  • she pronounces Bowie wrong, bitch

  • she does not - and neither does Ricky (unless Mr Bowie pronounces his name wrong himself)

  • She doesn't, it's just her accent.

  • No it's not...

  • yeah she says it wrong, its not her accent. and david bowie says it bowie as in bow and arrow, but he once said in an interview that he didnt care how you said it.

  • Black Titanic White Noise? It was worth a try.

Panic in Detroit Rock City...Rock 'n' Roll Suicide Kings...Glass Spiderman...Blue Velvet Goldmine...Into the Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud (bit obscene, that one)...

Those are kind of lame, but it's quite a lot of fun. :)

  • The Man Who Fell To Earthling :)

  • Is this from The Office?

  • No.

  • of course not!

  • he's got the teeth

  • well done

  • Cilla Black meets Ronald McDonald.

  • hahahaha

  • hahahaha - looks more like Ronald MacDonald

  • Ingenious!

  • you mean ronald mcdonald restaurants, i was inmspired over e' strawberry juice box being poured into my cereal?! hey new killer starr?!

  • Ricky is a massive Bowie fan.

  • Ricky is Hilarious

  • this isn't from the UK office.

  • Whats this from?

  • For all you wondering, this is from a one off show in 1998 called Golden Years, it is one of the first TV shows Ricky and Steve wrote together. You can find all three parts on youtube somewhere. It's worth a watch as you can see that some of the ideas of the Office came from it. And yes, the guy at 0:13 is Stephen Merchants dad.

  • Smerches Dad at 0:13!!!

  • its bowie like the knife. he has stated that its insparation was from the knife so he wouldnt become confused with Davy jones from the monkees. so its not boo-ie like so many who pronounce it wrong. it is his legal name but not his birth name

  • does ricky look thin or do my eyes decieve me

  • This is about 10 years old, from well before The Office. Before Ricky started eating blocks of cheese wrapped in strips of bacon!

  • Davy Jones aka David bowie

  • What is this from?

  • brilliant

  • Omg, he even got Bowie's voice down xD Haha, wow.

Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of British people actually pronounce David Bowie's last name with an "OW" sound instead of an "OH" sound...?

  • yeah alot of brittish ppl do pronounce it like that with a OW, but thats because that is the way you pronounce it,

  • Really? Everyone in the USA pronounces in with the "OH" sound, and even Bowie does, too! *is really confused*

  • im really confused too, because everyone in the UK says it with a "OW" and so does Bowie, when he's here at least,

    er.. well who knows lol,

he's still fantastic wither its "OH" or "OW"

  • Really? I've only ever heard him pronounce it "OH". God, how confusing....

Yes, either way, he's amazing.. but now I'm not going to be able to live with myself if I don't know the correct pronounciation.

  • Actually, now that I think about it.. it should be "OH", because, David's real last name is Jones, but he changed it to Bowie after the bowie knife (which was named after a guy with the last name Bowie). And the bowie knife is pronounced with the "OH" sound. Unless British people pronounce the knife's name with an "OW" sound as well.. idk. LOL

  • hahaha, then you must be right, and the reason sounds right, so maybe im wrong but im sure ive heard him say B"OW"ie, and ive always said it with a OW, but i say bowie Knife with a OH, hmmm..........

  • *shrug*

  • actually, Bowie is supposed to be pronounced "Boo-wee" because that's how Jim Bowie's last name is pronounced (which was where the bowie knife name came from). Bowie says Bowie the american way "Boh-wee" and Britons say it "Bow-wee"

I know David Bowie is British, but I've always seen him as more American than British (I dunno why). He seems more comfortable with America than other british singers i guess why. Still he's a genius.

  • ok. .. we'll give you a 25% of Bow wee in exchange for a 100% share of The Killers.

  • who cares how it's pronounced, I know many people who don't like the sound of "boowee" personally I don't either, I prefere the way he pronounces it here.

  • you mean jim bowen from bullseye lol

  • ...Scary Monsters Inc., The Lady in Red Money or Joe The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.

  • Hahaha!

  • might as well keep up the theme...
