This was always one of my 3 favorite JF tracks. The best one from Spilt Milk. But overall, I prefer the Bellybutton album. Mainly cuz that first impression was so heavy. These guys were brilliant. Andy's an undiscovered musical genius.
@1x1z Holy frakking shit...EXCELLENT !!! Kudos to you my friend !!! In the spirit of being on the cusp of that most demented of Hallmark Holidays Valentine's Day may I get down on one knee and propose marriage and the like ?? hahaha !!! Hell for loving Jellyfish AND Opeth (would liking Gojira too be stretching it.,.??) i'd even honour it if you are a dude hahaha !!! But seriously (whaddya mean...I AM !!) I applaud your great taste in all things musical...from Blackwater Park to Russian Hill !
i remember buying the cd with that lil red headed girl on it...
Those were the best days of my life so far...
This is another track that many would hate on first listen, but idk... maybe you had to be there to understand...Eitherway... this still excellent & unique.
According to Jellyfish interviews, this album was very tedious for Jellyfish to create in the studio. If you listen to the Spilt Milk album from start to finish, you will understand why and it will inspire you.
@suedejones I completely agree. While I have no right to feel this way, I'm a little bummed that Andy took this stuff and used it on his Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi project. It's his stuff, and I don't hate people making money on their own IP. However, play both versions of "joining a fanclub" back to back. :(
Without a doubt the greatest band ever...(along with Opeth anyway at t'other end of the spectrum !!! ) Begs the question HOW did they NOT become the biggest band on the planet...??? Which, as we all know can ONLY be answered in the Court of Human Rights at the Hague...some music industry cretin behind bullet proof glass wearing his CLOTH EARED TWAT tee-shirt...hang him !!!!
Some unequivocally brilliant songwriting. Besides the pop perfection, there's the metaphorical brilliance of the early lines - getting the naive girl (the gentleman signing his love letters 'Best wishes simpleton') pregnant is "dialogue swam from his pen like pollywogs."
Seriously? Remember when people could write songs instead of stilted awkward collisions of improper words? Geez, this is good.
hey please watch jellyfish an pretzel sticks also watch bowl of fake fruit the youtube account name is mrpineapplebuddies dont forget to comment and tell all of your friends please
Andy S. is/was a great singer and a great songwriter. I think many times people haphazardly throw around words like great and genius but in his case, it's fully warranted.
man, youtube or vevo or whomever should develop some kind of counter that monitors just now many people press mute when those dumbass ads come on. There are probably five broke retards in the whole world who actually listen to them.
Don't forget youngsters when this came out people instead bought Nirvana and Pearl Jam. General audiences hated high concept - high quality art music. Timing is an unfair bitch. Also, smart isn't sexy. Sexy sells. Another unfair bitch. I was the outcast who did buy this when it came out and I was totally alone and nobody else considered me cool so where were you people then, huh? Do you have any idea how lonely I was...I cried while listening to this. You were never there for me.
im 25 and i have been listening to this song since it came out i think and i love this whole record it made me the music man i am thank you dad but question was anyone else in this band from another band????
@mikey752182, Several. Andy Sturmer (the lead singer) and Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. were both originally in a band called Beatnik Beach before forming Jellyfish. Eric Dover, who joined Jellyfish during "Spilt Milk" era played in Slash's Snake Pit (the Slash of Guns N' Roses fame), and he and Roger went onto form Imperial Drag, another great band. Tim Smith, who played with Jellyfish, like Eric Dover, during the "Spilt Milk" period, went onto play in yet another great band, Umajets. (continued)
@TheHappyShow, Eric Dover has also been in a band called Sextus. Roger Joseph Manning has been in a band called Moog Cookbook, has played keyboards on Beck's albums, and also has put out some awesome solo albums of his own. Andy Sturmer has wrote and produced songs for the J-Pop duo, Puffy Ami Yumi, and he wrote the theme songs for "Ben 10" and the "Teen Titans" cartoon. Hope this info helps you out.
@TheHappyShow , Whoops! I forgot to mention Jason Falkner (who was a member during the "Bellybutton" era)... He has put out some awesome solo albums and was a member of a cool band that was called The Grays. Jellyfish was certainly a band that was made up of a number of very talented musicians!
I remember 20 years ago driving to six flags with some friends and we had the cassette of the first album cranked! Probably the only goofballs in our area who even knew who they were. Incredible band, incredible musicians!
These guys got hassled all the time for being a Beatles cover band - trying too hard to sound like the Fab Four. Sheesh...these two albums are just brlliant and who cares.
@1953taggie, Ringo certainly didn't mind. Andy Sturmer and Roger Joseph Manning, Jr, of Jellyfish worked with the former Beatle on one of his albums (see the video for "Weight of The World" by Ringo here on YouTube to witness the two guys backing up Ringo).
this song is a masterpiece .the video distracts us from the music .if i had the ability to wright songs of this beauty and intelligence ,and was overlooked as jellyfish where i would hate the human race .
I wish all the record 'execs' of today would look at this stuff, and understand what REAL artists / musicians are. As a musician, it really gives me the shits when I look at the top 50 singles charts, and notice that of those 50, only 5 or 6 can play an instrument!

The New Mistake "rare" performance is one of their last performances then, as well as the the 93' Warfield performance. Luckily I went to that one! I also saw them open for the Black Crowes in Feb. 91' at UC Davis going to see the Black Crowes.. Frickin awesome!
Jellyfish was so stinking good, and they got pushed aside because they showed up right in between glam metal and grunge. Radio changed and wiped out bands like Jellyfish and Living Colour. Truly sad. I actually had tickets to see them in '93 and the concert cancelled because they broke up :(
