His new album is beautiful, the way Gone to Shiloh conveys the atmosphere of men going to war anticipating death is a masterpiece of lyrics and melodic music
@TEMPmichaelhansen My mother was friends with the Watford [later England] manager Graham Taylor. He sent us a signed copy of the picture disc. It had Eltons and all the Watford team names on the sleeve. They were becoming a good team... and i took up the piano. Lovely song brings back great memories.
@TEMPmichaelhansen -he didnt write this specifically for "Oh Heavenly Dog' but it was used in it as well as "Song For Guy"-search for the film and watch the video that mentions an Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce. The song starts about halfway through the video-it also plays "Song For Guy"
@17865329 Meh, I don't much care for Elton's supposed "comeback". His new albums still have no soul; none of that energy his music used to have, none of that complexity. A Single Man, for me, is Elton's last good album. After that the real swoon began and never really ended.
@chapaev36 I agree with you. Although you lasted longer than I did. He pretty much lost me after "Madman Across The Water". He had maybe 2 songs on each of the following 6 or 7 albums that I liked but it just wasn't the same. His albums "Elton John" and Tumbleweed Connection" were Masterpieces. It seemed to me that after those albums, he began to stray from the musical path he was on, which I find very sad. That music was brilliant. He is talented, just went a different direction.
I remember hearing this song in the movie "Oh Heavenly Dog" years ago, and absolutely loving it. It took forever to find out what album it was on pre-Internet, but I finally did, and am happy to hear it here as well.
"oh heavenly dog " had another beautiful song by Elton called "song for guy." Parts of it play throughout the movie but I especialy love when it plays in the scene where Benji jumps in Jane Seymor's red convertible and they drive through the french countryside.
I've been searching for this song for over a decade!! Yaaaaaaaaaay

One of my favorite Elton John songs. Very nice arrangement. It feels like on a tropical paradise island.

This album marked the beginning
of a decade long swoon for Elton as an
artist. Nowhere near the brilliance of
previous albums, he began to comeback
upon reunion with Taupin culminating with
"Songs from the West Coast", considered
by most critics (and discerning music
fans) to be his best album since Goodbye
Yellow Brick road.
