  • to dude,if you played this game, get mgs3:snake eater, they brought this game back in it...except you use a tazer to get them

  • Press 0 :3

  • Spyro is still my favorite PS1 game. :3

  • thumbs up if you still play this in 2011! :)

  • Could you review a Silent Hill(3) or Resident Evil(4) game??

  • I friggen loved playing this game! But I only got to play numbers' two and three. >_<;; Overall, though, they were pretty fun. But after you beat the game, there's not much you can really do. : /

  • I might get a PS1 just to play this and possible Spyro

  • @kirbchu1 get a ps2 it plays ps2 and ps1

  • British dub version >>>>>>>> American dub version (And I'm American btw...) I had the British dub version

  • I am up to my neck in nostalgia.

  • Can this game be targeted for 17 years olds?

  • @SirBonarama5 This game is enjoyable no matter how old you are.

  • I only played the demo of this game, and ape escape 2!

    BUT BOY, were it awesome!

  • I luckily have owned systems of all of the three major gaming companies so I got to enjoy games for all. I have owned the GBC, SNES, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PSP, PS3, and the original xbox. And though I was VERY young when we had this, but I remembered it well, so I got the PSP remake. It was very good and I surprisingly remembered almost all of the levels in the game.

  • Are you able to play PS1 games on the PS2? Also can you play them with a PS2 controller and do you need a PS1 memory card to save the data? I was wondering because I was planning to get a pre-owned PS2 from gamestop some time and there were some PS1 games that interested me.

  • @aurathehedgehog You can play PS1 games on a PS2. I'm not sure about the controllers, and you need a PS1 Memory card.

  • Wait how do you play this with a non dual shock controller?

  • @cosmicluigi9000 apparently you don't.

  • this is my favorite game of all time and means so much to me good review

  • Good review. I am actually playing the game right now, and it is truly a classic on the orginal PS.

  • One of my favourite games i evered played, spent my childhood playing it. Thanks for the review :D brought back lots of memories.

  • Great review. Never played this one. I was a Nintendo boy.

  • @DeathToTheseWalls So am I. But that's not to say there aren't good games on other systems.

  • @cjszero01 Oh, of course not! :)

I have a PS3 nowadays. The Wii was just not enough, despite Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes.

  • @cjszero01 this was also one of my favs ps1 games i played it on my childhood and i still think its awesome

  • This game is just so fucking awesome:D 6/5

  • The PAL version had better voice acting. Great game though.

  • This is easily my favourite PS1 game and I need to have another go on it.

  • i think i know the thing whether the monkeys are apes or monkeys. the monkeys are the minions of the apes then the apes will come in and kick out all the monkeys thus the apes will rule the world. I never played the game, but it could be a possibility. could it?

  • Very great review :D you just got ''it'' ;D

  • Did you ever play any crash Bandacioot or spyro game.

  • @lilmslautner500 I'm afraid I haven't. :(

  • @cjszero01 Your missing out, man! If you're gonna try one I would say try Crash. i enjoyed it more than spyro. They are excellent games!.....Except for titans ans mind over mutant....

  • Huh, my user name is always Cjs001 =)

  • I used to love this game so much!!!!! I still have my copy i love it.

  • For some reason I swear I saw spector before and Ive never played this game or seen it!

  • It brings me back so many memories! Twisted Metal, Rayman, spiderman, Metal Gear Solid. I would give my kidney to go back in time and expierience theses games for the first time...AGAIN!

  • @tranhax666 i can do nothing but agree with everything you just said

  • @tranhax666 they should remake it , the new one from ps3 is whack. yes you have the "p.m" to catch them but then come after you and not you chasing them which tear down the game i once knew. i had to use tactics to get my apes not them run straight at me -.-. lame

  • This game was fabolous. I had so much fun playing this

  • have played all the ape escape games, this is still the #1 ape escape,2 and 3 just doesnt give me that originality feel as this one did

  • what level is the music at 3:00? just wondering i dont have ps1 or 2 but still have my copy of the game so i cant have a session.

  • @skateboardsteve409 The castle in space after the amusement park.

  • @cjszero01 did you ever play spyro or crash bandicoot?

  • @skateboardsteve409 give me that copy

  • @randomday1234 i have ps2 now and ape escape 2. had my few sessions on it. love it. shud cop ur own is cheap on ebay ps2 console and the game too.peace

  • @skateboardsteve409 THANKS OG : )

  • i played this years ago. when it first came out. i liked that the story has trick enders like you think the games over at trick castle then the game carrys on then at the tv tower you think its the final boss then you go to the theme park. theres plenty to do in the game. the mini games are decent too boxing skii'ing cant remember the 3rd. kept me occupied for ages. ape escape 2 was gd too hope it returns on ps3. gd review. the music is great too lol i love this game.

  • awww i remmem this it was so awesome nice review

  • Spectre looks like he has a pair of Y fronts on his head lol XD

  • youre absolutely right man best platformer evar :)

it brings back so much memories....

  • What is your opinion on 2 and 3? :P

  • best.game.ever.........well, the version with the british voices is the best, im american and i dnt even like the american voices, thumbs up britain xD

  • 0:48-0:50: Lolfail

  • Man it has been so long since I last played this game. I do however own the sequels to it (Ape Escape 2 and 3) Both really fun. And they also have a kind of Zelda feel to them in the sense that they have some puzzle solving mechanic in certain levels. This was also the very first game to use both joysticks at the same time, and that was actually kind of neat.

  • This is one of the best platformers I've ever played...great game!

  • the stage ot 2:07 looks like green hill zone, right?

  • @uzimakishadow Yeah, not a fan of backtracking.

  • @cjszero01 there is a remake of this game on the psp it is as great as this version but with better graphics futureama refrence for the win!!!

  • @cjszero01 for me i like the replay value and the backtracking and i know what you mean about the monkeys capture thing and this was like my best ps1 game then when i heard that they were doing it for the psp i was a little bit meh for the second anolog since there was not a second one but they did it by when you hold the button which i like and the humor little bit and i lost the game the psp good thing i can buy this the ps1 or psp version for the psn so yeah i would give this a 4/5 for ps1

  • have you gone to a place called retro mikes it has old video games that are not in stores anymore like snes nes 64 ps1?

  • @jetreview102 No but I've been to Games 4 less and 4Gamerz, they do the same thing.

  • @cjszero01 How many games do you have for the PS1 and PS2?

  • @BigBossMan538 PS1: Frogger, The Grinch, Crash Bash, Star Wars Phantom Menace, and Ape Escape. PS2: Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Klonoa 2, I can't find Star Wars BattleFront 2, Ratchet and Clank Going Commando, and Ape Escape 3. Normally whenever I have a second system I don't get a lot of games for it and I'm just borrowing my brothers PS2.

  • i wish i could play this on a emulator too bad the analog wont work when i use a ps3 controller

  • this... review... is... AWESOME!! :B :D

BTW i still love this game, and its music too

    thumb up

  • Good Game but Great REVIEW

  • The plot is pretty dumb but the game looks like a lot of fun, though.

  • Awesome! I'm glad you reviewed this game.

  • i still have this and its my #1 PS1 game

  • Man I want this game! but... I dont have a dualshock controller for my PSX

  • nwo i'm feeling nostalgic and a little sad that i don't have this game anymore =(...anyone got a PSP 0.0

  • The PSP doesn't have the second analog stick meaning your first swing better work or else you'll have to wait until he pulls himself up and by that time the monkey wil have run away. :(

  • W000T! i remember playing this game. it brings back such good memories T~T. just the platform design of each and every level, the variety of gadgets you could use- it was the most epic 3D game of its time!

  • i know another con, the american version has horrific voice acting!

  • This game was the bomb back in the day. The draw distance was horrible though.

BTW: The european version has better voice acting.

  • haha apes rule the 31st Century

  • GOD DAMN YOU! YOU BLEW IT UP! GOD DAMN YOU TO HELL! lol heston rules

  • That name looks familiar.lol

  • This is a good game very solid platformer.Right up there with Spryo and Crash and shmae on youse for never playin Tomba!

  • you should review the tomba games as well if you liked this one you will love the tomba games

  • Tomba? Don't think I've heard of that... sorry. :(

  • Wow, I haven't seen this game since the 90's... it used to be one of my favourites. Nice review.

  • Thank you. :)

  • Excellent review. I remember this game well. ^^ Loved it so much.

  • Thank you. :)

  • See that second video in the related video section?

Watch and listen to that guy's pe Escape videos, that's what voice acting "should" be like.

  • Really?

That lass who shows you how many monkeys to catch in each level dosn't give you the RC car and tell you about the Present Day levels?

I suppose after seeing and hearing the UK version you'll be a little jealous of that little extra detail and the honey (as opposed to acid) being poured into my ears.

  • She does tell you how to use the RC car. No one else could cuase they got kidnapped.

  • Da.. Er I mean *bleep* well at least the voice acting is still better, I just read a comment on one of rjcuk's videos that said she didn't tell you about the levels or how to use the RC in the American version, strange I missed her when I completed it though, heck I missed Specter and all the monkeys, except the ones with the green pants.

Do your cousins know where sinners are supposed to go? If so I'll be able to actually say *bleep* and even *bleep*.

  • lolz a hula hoop

  • Great review! Are the graphics supposed to be like that, though.. I don't own a PS1 :/

  • NICE REVIEW LOVE ALL YOUR WORK!!!!!

  • Thank you. :)

  • I have to say, your first problem can be a major problem during certain sections so I'll let you sit with me and everyone else who hates when the camera starts screwing around.

But your second complaint barely made any sense, it was great being able to go through all the levels later fully equipped, the only part of the backtracking that annoyed me was those monkeys in the boxes, you know the ones, the ones that can only be broken by the boxing glove.

  • It's not so much that just that some areas you have to go through all over again just to look for a monkey or two, that's all. As I said though it those two are just minor comlaints that don't bring the game down.

  • good but i do no't hath this games my best sp1 game are tom claney's rainbow six and tekken 2/3

  • Great review, some of my other favorite features that I remember were the photobook containg all the apes that you captured & the unlockable minigames

  • The last unlockable minigame was my favorite. flying around in the space ship in the galaga / space invader rip off made getting those coins worth it. :)

  • Yeah and years later Geometry Wars became a huge hit for doing the same thing.

I'd spend ages either playing the space monkeys game or spinning both analogue sticks either clockwise, anti-clockwise or a combination of both in the monkey boxing game.

You had to collect 10, 20 then 30 Specter coins to unlock them right? I hope I remembered it correctly.

  • u know in msg3 u can play a mini game were u have to find and catch those same monkeys! BUT!!!! u can use guns. BOOM HEAD SHOT!!!

  • OMG all the VOICE ACTING IS HORRIBLE!!! (runs and whimpers in corner)

  • I guess they had different voice acting for different regions instead of keeping it in one voice track.

  • Whats wrong with spectors voice? My game didnt sound like THAT.

  • Ape escape forever! My favorite game on PS1 :)

  • I love ape escape but ape escape 3 is the best

  • never played this one

  • That sucks. :(

  • that's one big fish at 4:22

  • No kidding. Good thing it doesn't want to eat you.

  • sadly, the fourth one have something to do with robots and has a futuristic style.

my favourit is the third one because thats the first one i ever played.BTW great review.

  • Dear lord, the American voice acting is terrible, the European voice acting is much, much better, the professor dosn't sound like Spector's master, Spike and Buzz sound like the children they're supposed to be and instead of sounding like a rebellous teenager Spector sounded like Johnny Briggs.

Hurrah for Spector's flying castle music, pity you didn't you the Buzz race music.

Not the greatest game ever, but it's still worth hunting down and getting a playstation.

  • sorry I meant use, not you, oh for the love of.. will they shut up? It's horrible, if only I could hear the European version again.

  • Why do I want to do a music walkthrough after listening to the castle music? :)

  • What Spector's flying castle music?

    Because it's awesome!

    Regular castle music?

    Because it's very catchy.

    Music walkthrough?

Because it's a good excuse to play the game again. ;)

  • Looks cool, and I love your reviews, you havent had one in a while!

  • good review but i never was a big fan of ape escape series

  • Looks good. I love 3D platformers, so I might pick this up some time!

  • Very good Times with this Game. Shame my cousin broke it 3 years ago. Oh well, got Ape Escape 3 and Pumped and Primed. Hope I`ll be able to get Ape Escape Million Monkey if it comes out to the US

  • They dont have tails, so they are not monkeys, there for they must be Apes

  • Unless it's hiding in those shorts. 0_0

  • I remember playing that game. Good times.

  • Indeed. :)

  • The controls on the psp version are a little stiff though

  • I've heard about that. That SUCKS!

  • yeah it's an other wise perfect copy of the original with better graphics

  • I loved this game I bought the remake on the psp and it's pretty cool

  • Woot, awesome review dude. I completely agree. Ape Escape is awesome. I never owned it for the PS1 though...I had the remake on the PSP. It was a faithful remake...but the damn analog nub was so annoying. Ape Escape 2 & 3 are also pretty good. 2's my favorite in the series, and 3 is good...but there's too much emphasis on movie making.

  • Thanks. :) I haven't been able to play the other ones though so I don't know how they are. :(

  • Lol, that sucks. I really recommend finding them asap. I don't know about Ape Escape 2, but AE3 is discontinued and is really rare at this point.

  • Man, just plain nostalgia... I played this like, 6 years ago from renting it from Albertson's. XD I'm glad I got it after.

  • I used to play the PS1 demo when I was 5 but it got scratched XD

  • That's the case with LuigiTails64, that sucks.

  • Lol nice

  • I used to play this game on my brother's playstation before the disc got scratched. I wish I could play this game again. Overall nice review. :-)

  • My memory card got damaged then I lost it so I have to play through this game from the begginning every time I play it. Thanks. :)

  • yeah
