FYI for anyone who has a similar problem: After pinpointing that the noise was coming from the drivers' side head, I checked all the pushrods, rocker arms, valve seals, springs, locks, etc, but they were all fine and adjusted to specs.
The problem was a bad lifter. Unfortunately heads have to come off for such a fix, but the labor isn't too bad if you know your way around an engine.
Lifter(s) The "squeaking" sound to me is the giveaway. Had it happen twice. Idiot machine shop didn't check for coil bind. I wouldn't run it until you check things. Good luck.
