@mhguy77 If I had a larger gardening space, I'd consider the irrigation system. It doesn't make sense for the balcony. Also these containers are free and cheap. The clay pots would definitely work, but would be an extra expense and resources used.
@GettingThereGreen Check my latest video about my balcony garden. Just transplanted some a tomato plant and started cukes in two containers. Want to start some corn too. I'm getting crazy.
lol BTW... what do your neighbors think of you sitting out on the balcony talking to your camera? It's funny to think of them sitting on the other side of the door watching the filming through the peep hole.... funny and creepy... very creepy. lol
Right on! I can't stress enough to my friends and family the benefits of growing your own food. In these tough economic times it de stress me to know that at the end of the day I may be broke and we may just be barely making it but I still have fresh produce to eat, a garden to enjoy, and I feel better about feeding my step son healthy food that he and I grew together. The pride and joy you get from growing your own food and knowing that you are doing your part to help the earth is so powerful!
keep doing what you do and spreading the word. Your videos are a great learning tool for others and fun to follow along. (P.S. hows your friends back yard project coming along?)
your cool man ,i think everybody needs to grow one plant from seed and it will change your life lol serious

Maybe you should consider clay pots, I am a container gardener and have found no containers finer than clap pots.
They breath this way, I tried the self watering pots liek you did but my results were less than fantastic.
If I use a clay pot and let the vegetable dry between waterings they excell.
I have also grown a tomato plant in a pot this year with a timmer that trickles water 1 min per hour constantly adn it is rolling all over the yard.
Maybe you should attempt using timers.
