I agree completely w/ buckydent. People need to realize the US press doesn't report on the entire story. This so called "father" was having an affair with another woman & was verbally abusive. He tricked the wife & kids into coming to america & slapped her with a divorce as soon as she landed & took the kids from her. So she snuck them back home where they belong.

He kept cancelling the children's doctor appointments.

In the past 10 yrs 20,000 children have been abducted from America and brought to Japan by their Japanese mothers. I have talked to a lot of Japanese and read many Japanese articles regarding this matter, the response I got is that most Japanese think its funny, support the mothers 100% or make excuses for her behavior and are generally happy to stick it to America (basically any country apart from Japan). I'd hate to imagine the total number of children worldwide abducted and brought to Japan

There is one key issue you are all missing here. She broke Us Federal Law. What, does Japan somehow believe that the only laws that apply to them are their own.? If this was a more serious crime such as rape, murder or even terrorism in the extreme case. Would Japan still see itself as the victim. Harboring fugitives is not something the US looks kindly upon. He got PhD in Japan as well as Japanese citizenship, so they were all Japanese. When he got back to US 2008, he has already started new life with new wife who was his old college friend in US.
