  • What kind of messed up world is this where you listen to food, eat books, smell music for it's color and watch sound?

  • copywrite got me here

  • hmm so thats what Asians do on there free time!

  • green sounds right

  • This video gets super lame after the kid drops acid and starts to see vision.

  • That chicken looked delicious.

  • so techno...is made out of kittehs

  • I don't understand the relationship here between books and food.

  • i like how the orange sounds.

  • this video is trippy as fuck

  • What camera and lens setup did you use

  • I'm so fucking high, this is the trippiest shit.

  • Please were can I watch the whole video???'

  • also, who said this was a scientific piece on synesthesia? we all know it's nothing like this. read the video description ffs.

  • what the actual fuck

  • This probably really confused people about what synesthesia is. It totally does not work like this. The records don't have a colour, the music if he was listening to it might. Or if smell triggered colour, then all of those records should have the same colour. Or if sight triggered colour, again they would have the same colour.

Synesthesia is latin for mixing of the senses. You can't listen to fruit or vegetables it is not specific things. Only one sense to another or multiple senses.

  • @elseamelsea To each their own synesthesia.

  • ...this is NOTHING like normal people's synesthesia XD

  • i can name every type of synaesthesia shown here!!! :D i feel smarticle

  • What the hell did I just watch?

  • WTF I've just watched ..!!!!

  • the F i have just watched?

  • Fler Farver sent me here! :D

  • This could be a video clip

  • i don't get this.. =O

  • 2:02 Begin Kitten Dance Party

  • so weird :3

  • cuz everyone has a life like that :)

  • aaalways wanted to be synesthetic)))

  • O__________________________________o

  • Synesthesia isn't something to envy or pity. It just another way of seeing and experiencing life. People prefer and excel in different areas based on the type of synesthesia they have. I personally have music synesthesia but yet have a different case than many other documented cases. Everyone sees different things and experiences it in different ways. It's not always actual colors from the spectrum. The people who have the most similar cases to myself are Tori Amos and Pharell.

  • @SKGBoston Agreed. I have synesthesia (grapheme-color and sound-color; and like you, different than many cases) and I don't think it makes me special. I just see the world a different way. Honestly, I never knew I was different until I was "diagnosed" - sometimes I still think the world is playing a gigantic joke on me, because I don't understand how people hear sounds and see words without colors. xD For me, explaining what synesthesia is like is like explaining the color red to a blind person.

  • I don't think color - grapheme synesthesia is as rare a phenomenon as supposed. I mentioned to a friend that I hate turning 33 because it's a glossy double red and she told me that her son is experiencing the same problem I ocassionally had in primary school, saying numbers instead of colors (3 + 2 = green etc.). 2 more people at the dinner party out of only 8 said their numbers also have colors and they thought everyone's had. So maybe many of us just aren't aware of it

  • they got most of the verities of synesthesia... sometimes i don't know if i should feel bad for ppl like this or if i should be jealous... they get to experience apart of the world that most of us can't fathom possible! a part of the world that we can't really explain to others without the aid of drugs... even then ppl who use drugs don't experience synesthesia at the same level as those who are synesthetic.

  • I have the shitty form of synesthesia, I just see colours with letters/numbers/months ._.

  • well this potato sounds like a cat wut?

  • it would be cool to have it for 1 day

  • i never realize how different my life would be without my synesthesia until i watch this and read the comments. It must suck not having it. It helps me with so much and I don't even realize it

  • @MissMacAndCheesy please tell me more how the soud look and stuff like that pleaseeeeeeeee

  • @CreeperTerminator there's a lot. i can figure out music by ear really easily because when I hear a certain note, i "see" a certain color associated with it. I "hear" movement (something moving makes like a BLOOP sound, it's hard to explain). When I think of a date, month, day of the week, number etc I can feel it in the space around me. Months go in a circle in front of me ordered counter-clockwise with january/december furthest away. Numbers are like a timeline going left to right in front

  • @CreeperTerminator of me, same with years. the current year is always closest to me. but when i think of years like 935 and 3023, it's like i'm "zooming in" on that part of the timeline, although it feels far away, like i'm looking at it through binoculars.

Numbers/letters all have personalities that never change, like 5 and 8 are guys. two digit numbers are married that have two personalities that work together.

I "see" noises as well. there's so many combinations it's hard to explain all

  • What is that at 2.33?!

  • @gulnare69 Its lychee

  • @menuki95 Ahh cheers!

  • ...directed and written by mrweebl

  • No it doesn't effect memorizing things badly. Synesthesia helps me memorize things like phone numbers, words to a song or simply facts of history to help me on a social studies test.

  • this video smells like green

  • @linkmaster112233 Why do I understand this..

  • @linkmaster112233 green is not a creative colour.

  • @linkmaster112233 ... green is not a creative color.

  • I need that song!

  • if you wanna experience synesthesia, take LSD.

  • Who the hell keeps fish in the draw? That's not smart.

  • one kid is plugging headphones into vegetables and the other is smelling record disks

    what the shit.

  • Where can I find the song from 1:28 ?

  • Am I the only one who reads the top comments first and then looks for what it says in the video????

  • I have synesthesia and I just found out today. I was at a book store and there was a book about a girl who had synesthesia but she kept it a secret. That confused me because it said she saw shapes letters and numbers as colors and I thought everyone saw that I asked my mom who they would make a book about that and she freaked out when she realized I had it. She calmed down when I told her didn't have much of an effect except for memorizing things. Also when people talk I see the words written o

  • @HersheyLuvGirl

woah, synesthesia must be really boring when you have it by default

  • stupid japs

  • If you guys really had this condition, it wudnt seem "strange" at all, or even "cool", a persons reality with synesthesia wudnt consider it strange cuz our reality is just as "cool" or weird as theirs is to us....

  • Who seeked the video back a few seconds just to see if those S's were among those 5's all along at the beginning of the video?

  • So that's what it's like in Korea

  • @ShermanWeezley no its hongkong

  • @NerdDUBstepO no its not

  • @cybwong888 if you are a secondary school student

ask your consuller about one third hong kong students are mentally illed

and one sixth want to kill themselves

  • @ShermanWeezley The boy speaks Cantonese so perhaps it's really in Hong Kong Xp

  • @ShermanWeezley It's in Cantonese

  • I feel like having Synethesia would make like a lot more interesting.

  • please? I need to know

  • @futureshorts what is the song at the end????

  • I want Synethesia :(

  • SOUNDTRACK!!!!

    SUPERB!!!

  • I want smoke some DiMiTri and listen to this!!!

  • lol this is cool...I hear movement and hear flashing colors

  • Why does this remind me of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory?

  • music, letters and numbers have colours everywhere!!!

  • That's cool :) im doing an art project thing where I have to create something with meaning behind it and I chose Synesthesia because i think its really incredible, ive been doing research on it and every case of it is different! comment on this if you have it and what some of your senses are? it would really help <3

  • My words have a taste to them.

For example, WHY THE HECK DOES THIS VIDEO MAKE SENSE.

WHY = scrambled eggs THE = carrots HECK = saliva DOES = sausage THIS = not a damn thing VIDEO = ravioli MAKE = pancakes SENSE = lettuce.

It's strange but fun to have.

  • This video is great :D

I've often had trouble describing exactly what Synesthetes see, but this video does the job pretty well.

What I get is visual distortion when I hear loud, sudden sounds: like I 'see' a spider-webbing crack running through my vision.

  • I need some LCD.

  • @jqdsilva you're looking at one, you fuck

  • S is not YELLOW! :(

  • @SynesthesiaSoup Oh good...I wasn't the only one who was freaking out about that :-D

  • synesthesia is fucking great

  • i have Synesthesia and i see sound, and this made me lol

  • in my mind numbers, letters and words have colors :D and i can say, i love synesthesia! :D

  • if only synesthesia people use their powers for art we just might see the next Leonardo

  • I don't get it. Someone please explain. And it was done very well. I like it, very nice

  • @TheCheeseinacan Synesthesia can involve any senses. For example, a synesthete might see the word "plane" as mint green or the number "4" as dark brown. There are also synesthetes who hear sounds in response to smell, who smell in response to touch, or who feel something in response to sight. There are some people who possess synesthesia involving three or even more senses, but this is extremely rare.

  • @TheManiNicole thats incrediable! thanks

  • This was so fucking good..

  • is the kid a hongkonger

  • @BrandonKinmanLee007 i don't think so. he has a weird accent.

  • what the fuck did I just watch?

  • @anshuhunk You watched a simplified illustration of how Synesthetes view the world. Our brains link two or more senses together; for instance, the old man in the video sees things in response to sound, and the kid at the table hears noises in response to colours and forms.

  • Where do i buy speakers like those?

  • @FallenEmpireLegions

Buy stereo speakers, cut the hole out the back.. and throw food and crap thru the back.

  • Nice vid. I myself see the music inside my head as moving colourful shapes mostly made of light. :P

  • i don't get this, someone please tell me what the hell is wrong with this family?!

  • HAHA they are cooking the books!

  • that was weird

  • Sensory overload. This is pretty dynamic. We should all be aware of our surrounding.

  • Fascinating. Fun to watch.

    TaylorMade Films

  • Hehe.

  • brilliant! i have a mild case of synesthesia, ive always associated letters and numbers with genders (eg: 2, 3, 5, 7 are males, 4, 6, 8, and 9 are females)

i know its weird but i really dont know what it means

  • @librenglaro For me 1, 3, 5, 9 are males and 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 are females. Just thought I'd share. For me numbers also have a colour and personality. For example 4 is blue, and girl, and she's insightful. 9 is a dark red/purple, male, and self-loathing.

  • @hello10577 No no no 0,1,4,7,8,9 are males, 2,3,5,6 are females! =p I don't know why, but love this.. is just a feeling, no further meaning or interpretations ^^

  • @Xanpooh we have a few numbers in common at least :o) but it's so hard to imagine someone else's point of view...

  • What the fuck did I just watch #2....?

  • what the fuck did i just watch?

  • Srsly, where is the LOVE button. I have been fascinated with synesthesia myself and spent a while looking up everything I could find about the condition once I discovered its existence. I am a teacher so I wonder if I will ever encounter a student with synesthesia. It would be a trip to tell a parent about!

  • WEIRD

  • Classico!

  • 2:04 made me smile xD

  • Matrix 4

  • Хуита!

  • no CreativeCommons License?

  • The Subtitles of the colors are wrong!!! The boy is speaking Cantonese... he's saying Green and Purple not Blue and Green! Just a small thing that drove me insane otherwise... NICE VIDEO!

  • I sometimes wonder about the people who dislike videos. Honestly, like, did someone just click the dislike button for fun? or were they offended?

  • @faustzanuff Tastes vary.

  • i dont get it o3o whats Synesthesia?

  • Simply Brilliant.

  • I have synesthesia. I mean, I don't see cats and vines and fire and whatnot, but this video is cool anyway :)

  • @izzythe25th Wow! Do you see it as a gift or a nuisance? How does it effect daily life? Would you take it away if you could. And most of all, how does it effect your enjoyment of music. Can you tell you've lit up my curiosities? xD

  • @lockergr Haha, nice to know you have a large amount of curiosity! Well, I don't really see much when it comes to sounds (sorry if that disappoints you!), but I do see colors when I think of letters and numbers. I'd say it's a gift because it helps my memory a lot, though it is irritating sometimes to see letters and numbers that don't correspond with the ones in my head. As for daily life, I don't really give it much thought because it's as natural as breathing. I hope that helped somewhat! :)

  • @lockergr Oops! I meant "...it is irritating sometimes to see letters and numbers *with colors*..."

  • I am currently fundraising for a short film that I am co-producing/starring in- it is about synesthesia. We have a Hollywood director and we are working with an actual synesthete artist. Some of her art works is available as rewards in exchange for donations. Check out our project! Go to kickstarter and type in The Colour of Her scream

  • LOL @ Cats xD

  • Whoever directed this video must be the most epic stoner of all time

  • GRAET Definition Of "Synesthesia"

  • I really am gonna have to watch this while high..

  • umm...I'm gonna cry now....because I don't understand a frikkin' thing that just happened. O.O

  • @Mrlutsfer Dont cry bescause you dont understand it... It basically shows the wierd stuff the disease can do to you and your five senses... Mixing them around... If you want this felling, take heavy doses of LSD.

  • @WeegeeVI

Why call this a disease? I don't believe it's actually a problem for people. Often times it can be quite useful. And I know this is the internet, so saying this is probably pointless, but don't recommend people take large doses of LSD. Anyone dumb enough to do it for this reason probably won't find it, but someone might be curious enough and manage to get some. It's a fucking amazing drug, but it needs respect.

  • @WeegeeVI I actually meant to say birth defect, not a disease.

  • @WeegeeVI I wouldn't call it a disease. Condition seems a tad more appropriate, don't you think?

  • What is the last thing the boy says? ;o

  • @pandazatthedisco In Cantonese, the last thing he said would be "pink".

  • I'm not sure what I just watched o_o

  • I can see sounds in my mind. o_O

  • what is this...i dont even....

  • For a few minutes, I thought he was saying the colors in Japanese, then I realized that it's actually in canto lmao

  • dafuq? awesome!

  • last time i did that to my speakers I got in trouble :P

  • u feel the sound u crack the noise its unbearable u cant feel the space it makes..

  • I swear the kid sniffing the records are saying the colours in Cantonese but the translations aren't matching up... Is that wrong or is it trying to convey another form of synesthesia? :P

  • @TrinaKatracia the translations do match. there are just different ways to say some colors.

  • i see colors for the notes as i play piano.

  • I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be mean to those who have synesthesia, but I just don't understand what's going on in this video. I do know that synesthesia is a condition where you can hear colors and letters are colors and people are music, but this video has so much going on that I am getting confused... can someone help?

  • @wolflover8765 It is illustrating synesthesia, where one sence can be linked to another. For instance, some see colours when they hear music so this video shows that by colours coming out of the speakers. Some smell colors and that is why the boy is sniffing records and saying colours. I don't believe this video is supposed to be scientific as much as arty and open to interpretation. Hope that clears it up a wee bit!

  • @jaksooon Thanks a lot! You really helped me!

  • My experience was seeing peoples voices as wonderful glass masks, around their faces.... I am realizing the masks, one of these days.

  • whenever i c a person a random song just pops into my head.

  • I have a strong case of Ordinal Linguistic Personification, and it's no where near as cool as this.

  • that's kind of cool

  • when every i see a corner i see a line emerging out of it meeting other corners oposit to it... is it also a kind of Synesthesia.

  • im too high for this

  • Unfortunately now, all he'll be hearing is the clicking of radiation spreading across asia in food :/

  • really cool video, Ir wonderfully explain what a synesthesia can be

  • You need a better translator...

  • i have sound as colors or things, something as taste,

  • its cool....hahaha...but then it is still undeniable that SYNESTHESIA is a disease...it may sound amusing but synesthesia is really a disorder... :-)

  • @nrobin96 Most people that have synesthesia say they love it and wouldn't want to get rid of it..

  • @Ahkoto

Most of it was brutally taken from me. You got that right...

  • @nrobin96 I disagree that it's a disease, it's part of the spectrum of normal. More to the extreme, but still normal. Most people with synesthesia don't realise they have it until they say something other people don't get or they hear about it somewhere. I didn't know until I took cognitive neuroscience that not everyone sees numbers as having a gender and personality, which is my synesthesia. And no, I wouldn't give that up for anything, even if it let me do better in math :)

  • Frrrickin awesome!

  • What does this have to do with Synesthesia?

  • 1:45 eggs don't break, but the rest is totally believable.

  • sometimes i can taste smell.. (like my pee) do i have synthewutera?
