  • Hey thank you so much! It was so helpful! I can't wait to get my new pullover with my own design! =) DFTBA

  • Thank you, this helps me understand vector editing. (I am trying to learn how to draw vector)

  • Thank you so much! This has really helped.

  • @bloomer1997 No, this will not allow you to crop a photo. Inkscape is not a bitmap (pixel based) editor. That's why we had to "trace bitmap" in the beginning which converts a simple bitmap image into it's underlying vector shapes. If you would like to simply crop photos I would suggest picasa, it's a google product and it's easy to use. GIMP is most advanced free pixel based editor out there, that is, most like Photoshop.

  • I like your video. I have a question. Does this apply to photos you want to crop?

I can't seem to be able to do it on photos. Thanks!

  • @curlychronicles As long as you have converted it to a shape already, you should be able to simply double click to bring up the nodes. Also try selecting the node tool at left and then clicking the object. Hope that helps.

  • @bennthewolfe thanks for replying, I'll try that out :)

  • I can't seem to get the nodes to appear before choosing path>simplify, am I doing something wrong?

  • why do you duplicate before you change the color??

  • @yuta7468627 There are a couple reasons why I like to duplicate before coloring. First, I like to have the original to go back to if I screw something up. Second, since the default gradient type is from a color to transparent I like to just let the color of the shape under it show through to create my gradients instead of breaking out the gradient editor which is not my favorite thing to use if I don't need to. It's just a preference, but the first reason is the big one.

  • @bennthewolfe thanks:-)

  • ur voice sounds dirty :o

  • @runeskypex Thank you? I assure you I had showered.

  • @bennthewolfe dirty in the good way :D

  • @tomecrawford Okay here's what I think you did. Let's say you had a square. Then you wanted to punch one corner out. So you tried to select just the corner and go to path => difference. That's not how it works. If you want to punch something out. You will need to create a shape with some sort of shape tool which is the shape you want to punch out. Then put that shape on top of the other shape, select them both, and then go to path => difference. I hope that helps.

  • Hi , i tried to follow the video, but when i select the area to be punched out and go to path, then difference, nothing happens. am i supposed to select the main picture also, but i dont know how this was done as it went too fast. i would appreciate any help . Tom

  • does this have the photoshop pen tool

  • @nairad100 not quite as handy with the shortcuts as the pen tool in photoshop, but yes it has a bezier pen tool. You can only make shapes with it though, not just paths.

  • @bennthewolfe You can just make paths! All you have to do is press enter and it'll just create a line or curve or whatever path you had already made.

  • Thanks! this was very informative and I finally understand some of the basics!

  • who was the artist of that song played

  • Nice and soothing voice!

  • great tutorial, I've learned some new stuff, thanks a lot

  • reall helpful mate cheers

  • lol awesome song and tutorial

  • good use of the path tools and bitmap to vector tool.

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Love Inkscape

  • @MacoLabels Your welcome, Inkscape. Love, Benn.

  • When I go into the Trace bitmap and update the picture- The picture doesn't come up. What am I doing wrong? Also, How do I change the size of the rectangle in the middle of the page.

  • Really good video.

Something strangely soothing about the guy's voice!

  • A great explanation of how to import, trace and clean up a bitmap image! Thanks for taking the time.

  • that was cool! thanks!

  • Do you mind i link people to this video, you get full credit of coz?

  • @Sylanael Hi, I hope that you share it with anyone whether you give me credit or not. I'm glad that you liked the video and found it helpful.

  • Holy crap! Your'e really smart. I don't think I'm computer saavy enough to do that! You just make it look so easy. You must use the inkscape a lot! Very nice tutorial. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • you very welcome. thank you so much!

  • If you could help me out that would be great.

how do I make 2 designs combine into one.

for instance when I put a word on a shape...? how do I combine the 2 and make it so the design is one? that way when I duplicate it, it duplicates the whole thing not just one or the other, shape or the letters?

  • Well, I think the most accurate answer is that you use the "union" function under "path". But I think you mean just group them together. If that is the case you want to use the button that has a four dots around a circle and a square. It is the group function. You can also find it under "object". Have the objects you would like to group selected together and press group, then you can manipulate them as a unit.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Thanks a lot that really helped... I love the tutorial!

I'm still trying to work on erasing objects using the rectangle or square object.

  • Great tut!

  • thank you, thanks for watching and rating!

  • I need help!!! If I want do a graphic cut up like in your vid, nothing happened V.V the programm just write that I have to choose 2 paths but I cant find out how I make this

  • I don't know if I was clear in the video, but to make multiple simultaneous selections you need to hold control or shift. Then you can select two or more items. To take the difference you need exactly two shapes selected.

  • What you did is really amazing!

I'm a complete beginner with vector graphics. The first problem I ran into following this tutorial was when I try to do Path->Difference it says "One of the objects is not a path, cannot perform boolean operation".

Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

Note: I'm trying to edit a file I found on one blog. I converted it from eps to svg.

    Thanks in advance!

  • you are going to want to use the "object to path" which is under "path" or hotkey control+shift+c

  • The thing about music is that even if it's not a type you would normally listen to, it's still better than silence.

Great tut, I picked up some techniques from this I wouldn't have developed on my own anytime soon. Thanks.

  • That was a fantastic tutorial, very well produced and it also helped a great deal! Now I know how I'm going to create my logo. :)

  • Very helpfull show. But If I move my flower the gardient do not move. So I get color-errors: The gardient shems to be anchored to the side but not to the flower.

Does anybody know what is wrong?

(Please excuse my bad english - I am german ;-)

  • That is actually how inkscape works. I'm not sure why they do it that way. I would assume it is coming from the idea that your light source which is causing the gradient does not move. But you can move the gradient after you move the object with the gradient tool on the left, it's a line with a black square and a white square on its ends.

  • Many thanks for your quick answer. Everytime I moved those objects I drawed a new gartient. Its a good hint just move the gardient after moving the object.

  • Thanks so much! Helped me a ton!

  • I am sorry falbala! I marked your comment accidental as spam: I didtn want to do this - it was just a "click-error".

  • After watching a few videos I think I'm ready to try my hand at a logo-thanks for these!

  • That was amazingly good! I totally love it! Great job and thank you so much:)

  • Thanks, very useful tutorial, helped me a lot.
