i'm looking for a keyboard to learn piano and start producing with my software, but i'm looking to learn an instrument, i heard that this comes with software to help. do you think this is good for a beginner? thanks
EVERYONE HAS THIS KEYBOARD AND THERE ALL HAVING A BLAST WITH IT, It was in my local music shop until the day i go get it. ITS GONE. And I've been wanting this keyboard for at least a year. at least. Or maybe it was the DGX 630.. basically the same thing
@hahabigbully123 Yamaha is great for all instruments. I have a Yamaha drum set and it's just fine. But like you, I'm curious if this is okay for a Beginner. The main thing, from what I've been told, is to get a keyboard with weighted keys. That's necessary I guess if you ever want to play a real piano.
Did you get a bowl of soup with that keyboard. I used to have a keyboard like that then i got a job. You should tell your life partner to buy you a better one.
Just ordered one of these babes for my 9 year old. I'll just use it when she's at school, doing homework, in the bathroom or asleep. Can't wait... for her to receive it.
I have a personal preference question. I plan on upgrading from a 61 keys keyboard to a 76 keys. Do you think that will be enough keys for an intermediate player like myself?
@jcurls90 yea thats good, youll now be able to work on harder songs that require a 76 or 88 key,Id do it if your really inot learning how to play and planning on keep it like that for a long time, cuz the better u get the better piano you'll want and the more expensive itll be,if not stick to a good 61 keys keyboard good quality piano.but for an intermediate yea a 76 keyboard will be good or even a 88.
Would you reccomend me this one or the p95...I really don't know which one I should get...I just want one with the most realistic piano sound and the one with the best feeling of the keyboard(more piano like)....does anyone have any suggestions?
I am currently keyboard shopping and this model is my favorite so far. Can anyone give me some advice and tips for keyboard shopping? I am a little lost. I am trying to get back into music after not playing for a while.
The YPG-635 (identical to DGX-630) has a graded hammer keyboard while YPG-625 (identical to DGX-620) has graded softtouch keys. Due to the hammer keyboard the 635 is heavier but the keys feel more like on a real piano. The 635 also has 64x polyphony (the 625 has 32x polyphony.)
Overall, the differences are not that big. If you need a keyboard which feels almost like a real piano, buy the 635 (or DGX-630 as it is identical) otherwise you are fine with the 625 (or DGX-620.)
Man, this way too kool!!! I just purchased a new YPG-635 and I love it. All I need are a few lessons from you!!! You are a real inspirational...Thanks for the post..
Just try to relax and play. What I play on the DGX-630 (identical to YPG-635) sounds aweful so I will never upload it to Youtube, but it is still relaxing to jam or to experiment with some melody ideas.
Are you saying the 635 does not produce good sound like the 625 or 630 because of the weighted keys? I'm not clear why you tell me you can't produce a quality video with a 635??? Could you please clarify further// Thanks for your help.
Wow that is very groovy. That is a nice sounding piano too! Very nice. we need to get together, Ill be your upright bass player, we find a drummer and we off to do some gigs! lol :D Very nice.
Hi I am not from the US. I am from ASIA Actually. Could u tell me the price of this keyboard in estimate also any online store that would ship international?(if it is possible to get it without damage?
i pelieve it's the poly-whatever thing. 625 you can play like 25 notes at once, 635 you can play 67 i believe. (figures might not be accurate, but are close) Plus for the 635 they discontinued the LP-7 pedal set....you can find it online and just screw it in though.
Hi. I have the same key yamaha board. How do you do you do the sequencing with the drum using the sequencer of the piano. I read the manual and can't understand the instructions. Is it easy to do? I would apreciate If you can do the video "how to do sequencing for the YPG-625"
The keyboard has two USB ports on it - one for hooking into your computer, and one for connecting a storage device like a thumb drive. With the USB port, it connects to MIDI songs. The program Mixcraft by Acoustica can be used for sequencing software for the drum.
I want to buy the YPG-635 (DGX630), can someone tell me if theire are some problems with it? because I read some things about the keyboard that makes me think about buying another keyboard!? (sorry for my english, I'm from The Netherlands)
Yes, Mike. Any keyboard with a MIDI or USB connection will work with your MacBook. The YGP635 (DGX630 in Europe) has a USB port. If you are just using the keyboard to trigger the Garage Band library of sounds, you could also save over $200 and get a Yamaha P85 keyboard instead. It has the exact same Yamaha keyboard specs but doesn't have the TONS of sounds and disco beats the YGP635 has built in. You've already got those additional sounds built into Garage Band.
Great playing man!! I've had the yamaha DGX-505 for a few years now, it looks almost exactly like your model. They have a great sound and such realistic sound effects, well peace man! love that jazz, keep it up!!
Hi, I just received my new Yamaha YPG625. I have read lots of good reviews about it. But I think the keyboard makes loud noises when the keys bounce back up. But from your video, it doesn't seem that way. I don't know if it's just my keyboard that has this problem. What do you think about the keys on YGP-625?
jasonmhc, I don't agree with you. This is not professional keyboard. I bought it for $750 and you can't buy pro keyboard for that much. This is created for a beginner / intermediate players who don't want to waste his money on cheap $150 keyboard but still don't have thousands for a pro. This keyboard has 88 graded keys and it's a best buy for any beginner. Anyway, 90% of us, non-professionals, will just hit "Grand Piano" button and play.
now the good points.. this keyboard looks wonderful in the flesh, the keyboard feel is just sweet, great action. nice well lit screen, this piano is bigger than it looks in images which was a nice surprise, really solid build quality, graded piano key response is very nice and realistic to the real deal, for a learner and advanced player alike this instrument is absolutely unbeatable for the price
also the sound level on the speakers simply isnt loud enough 6watts? i can get more volume on my portable radio. against the p140 the piano sound on this sounds dull, listen to some google reviews and hear the difference. for a accomplished musician this keyboard has too much crap you dont need and not enough features you do need, its more like a glorified version of the god awful yamaha psr range, which was designed for people with only two fingers, cant record on it, cant gig it..
i checked this out in a shop recently, had a play around. whilst it feels quite nice to play and looks quite nice it has drawbacks, where in the name of hell are the jackplug 1/4 for output to a mixer, just a crappy headphone output?? wtf yamaha? this lack of output for me means this is not a serious instrument, yamaha should have left out all those crappy, tacky accompaniments, put jack outputs and some better sound instead,, this would be ok for a kid to learn on though
Yea, I already found out by asking on the Yamaha forums thanks.
This looks like the best keyboard that has ever been released for the money, £415 was an offer on the website I ordered from, the average price here is £469.
I needed an upgrade from my PSR-530 to something with full size piano like keys and more of them as I'm now learning Grade 8 Piano, this fits what I needed perfectly :)
Almost 10 years ago, my current PSR-530 was £400, now you can get this for just a bit more.
WOW Fantastic!! Btw, does that yamaha ypg 625 come with a headphone jack so you can play quietly? I plan on buying one and I heard so many good reviews =]
i love the way you play man" i am a piano player my self, play guitar too y like joe pass in the guitar, oscar peterson on piano and i like your style as well, thanks for your video, hope to see some more.
Very nice smooth jazz. Great piano sound. I tried making a recording and the webcam reversed the image and the sound quality was not worth hearing. would you be so kind to tell me how you get the image to be correct orientation and how you get the sound quality so perfect (i.e. use mike or direct connect)? It's a great demo you did for the YPG625 and for your own talents. Thank you. Good luck with your future performing.
Thanks! It is connected directly to the laptop, using a 1/4 inch stereo to 1/8 inch stereo adapter. Plug the adapter into your headphone jack on the keyboard and the computer speaker to the 1/8 inch socket.
Thanks much for the audio tip. On the video aspect, when I use my webcam (built in iMac) to shoot over my shoulder to show my hands on the keyboard, the left and right are reversed so my right hand looks like it's playing base notes and my left hand looks like it's playing treble notes, and everything else is like a mirror reversal. Yours is perfect WYSIWYG. What do you think I'm doing wrong. Is there a way of correcting that? What webcam are you using? Thanks again.
I checked further into the video reversal problem on Google and apparently it's a common complaint about the way their iSight camera works. I found a software solution that is inside mac's iMovie HD software, so I think I'm good to go now. So thanks again for your tips. It looks like the problems are solved.

I was refering to my ability to play (or the lack of the ability) why I will not upload Youtube videos with my DGX-630.
The keys itself don't have influence on the sound generation. It is just a question of what you like: Softtouch (keyboard) or Graded Hammer (piano.)
