I'm in suburban Philadelphia..Montgomery county specifically. I have to first go to my local police station and submit a 'Local Police Check' form first for a 'locally performed' background check. I'm actually in the process of doing this as we speak. The Local check takes 2 weeks, then you take that complete form along with your separate county form, all you other ID and paperwork if any to the County Sherriff who can then take up to 45-days to process your application.
I hold a PA non-resident LTC that I got via snail mail. Now PA lawmakers screwed this up and PA sheriff's departments will lose this income from out of state-ers. I'm sure they used the excuse that OOS folks will be carrying IN PA, but as a practical matter, many of us don't set foot IN PA, we need it for GA and elsewhere. Another case where government knows-best what's good for it's obsequious followers, and real citizens are too lazy to stand in the way of these hired hands.
Tests aren't necessary. Most people who get the permit get training either from qualified instructors or ppl like you or me who know what we're doing. There aren't problems in states that don't require training so why require it? Shouldn't even have to get a permit, reference AK, AZ, WY, an VT.
In Texas it will cost you at least 170.00 if you are a veteran or 62 or over and as much as 240.00 if you are not, you have to take a mandatory 10 hour 2 part class and then qualify at the range sumit your paper work to the department of public safety and wait
could take up to 90 days, I waited over 30 days to get mine
I'm near Philly. I had to go to my local Sheriffs office ask for the permit. Then I took it home, filled it out and went back to the Sheriffs office a few days later. When I gave the paper work to the women behind the desk, she asked me to sit down so that she could take my picture. It took maybe 2-3 mins if that. Then not too long after the waiting period received my CCW Permit in the mail.
great point about gun training - I had none and didnt even know how to use the thing truthfully and was waiting for my brother to show me how but the person used the fact that I had purchase the gun to lie to the police and say I pointed it at her on 2 seperate occassions (in my own own please let me remind you) after I was hold out out because of my own home this person stayed at my parent house 2 blocks away and gave a completely different story!
Hey Marbles....I noticed your friend shooting the same gun as you long arm , hes a lefty...does it matter...???....my son is a lefty and he will be getting my gun collection...his domonant eye is his left eye also....hes 10 ...should I teach him to shoot righty or let him shoot lefty and get his own guns....lol.....any suggestions...????....also is that a glock in the photo , thats a sweet lookiing piece.....!!....Thanks..
Marbles, I more than agree in regards to needing a test... The amount of idiot patient's I take with me on the ambulance that are carrying without any training is astronomical... Main reason I wear a vest on the trucks!
Back in the day in AZ you took a 16 hour class and had a easy shoot to show profeciancy. You also paid to have DPS conduct your background investigation and that was about it. Then every 5 years to paid 45 bucks and it was renewed. That was for CCW carry only. Open carry is LEGAL. Now days, AZ is a right to carry state so no permit is needed for CCW or OC. However the permit is still available and it allows you to carry in other states that vet our permits. Easy stuff here in AZ.
I'm in upstate NY and currently have my Restricted pistol permit(took 4 weeks to get approved). I am only allowed to use my handgun for target practice or hunting. Caught anywhere else with it and you'll lose it. Cost me $115 for the permit. For full concealed carry I had to complete an 8 hour course($200) including 24 rounds shot at the range. Then I have to write a letter to the judge stating why I need a concealed carry permit. Still waiting for the approval on that. NY is a bitch.
@Lookinformemarbles I should get it, the judge in my county is pro gun and is passing out permits at a quicker than normal rate. Used to take 5 or 6 MONTHS. I hope to have it within 5 or 6 weeks. I know, seems like a long time. But as long as I get it, I'll be happy. Now all I need is a decent (affordable) concealed holster for my XD40. Damn, for the price of the damn permits I coulda got another pistol!!
that's more than we do in Berks Co. We get it within 1/2 hour... and I just signed for a guy, only 2 signatures. I understand in a way why you think there should be a test, but what stats other than fear do you have to want that? Half the nutjobs behind a wheel shouldn't be there. So, I think somehow it would lead to a loss of rights. Doesn't say anything about an exam in order to have the right to bear arms. Hey. love your channel, just thinking out loud.
I dont think someone that has no idea about firearms is going to go out, buy a gun and start carying. I dont know anyone that has bought a firearm with the intention of never shooting it or breaking it down to clean. Here in Arizona there is no permit required to conceal a firearm and i think thats a good thing. I am a big fan of open carry and never saw the need to conceal so i never got my CCW, but now with the new law, i can open carry without needing aproval from my gvt to wear a jacket.
In Vegas you need a clean record also but you also need to take a 8 hour class to make sure you are informed on all the right laws and you have to take and pass a shooting test and pay 100.00 - 200.00 depending on were you go thats for the background check and class the you have to wait 2 -3 mouths to be approved. but we are a open carry state if you dont want to go through all that.
You don't need to do a test to exercise your right to free speech or right to own property or the fruit of your labor. Owning a firearm is a right, not a privilege. Something like a drivers license, on the other hand, requires doing a test. But a drivers license is a privilege, not a right. But I do understand why you do feel this way - for safety reasons to prevent negligence and ignorance / stupidity. We just need to encourage more education for gun owners. /John
The references on your application are optional, they can not legally use that to deny you from your license, because PA is a shall issue state, they just LIKE to find out some people you know, but both myself and a friend listed no references on our applications and we both got approved. It's unfair, because what if you have friends to reference, but they're anti-gun? They're going to end up giving you a bad name, so better to leave it blank, IMO.
Mikey, I'm outside of Philly and it was 45 bucks I think. In and out of the Sheriffs Dept with license in hand in 45 minutes!! Also PA is a "shall Issue" State. Which means they have to have a valid reason for denial otherwise they have to issue it to you. I'll repost my old vid on it.
next door to you in Ohio its about $60 but it involves also having either military or LEO training proof or have taken an approved 12 hour training course....I guess that explains why OH and PA don't have recipriocity
In VA where I live it is pretty easy to. Fill out the app and pay $50. The money goes toward your fee, you don't have to pay it again for 5 years. Similar application as yours. You also need to have a certificate from a gun safety course. In my situation, I used my hunters safety course certificate that I got years ago as a teenager. Having a DUI or possession of marijuana charge here will not necessarily disqualify you too.
Im in PA too. Here, in Bucks County, just north of philly, our sheriff's office processes 15,000 ccw permits a year. Getting my CCW was just as easy, except mine cost $47! Also, if you want to open carry, there is NO PERMIT all you have to do is be able to legally carry a pistol. (21 yrs old and not be a Felon)
I don't know much about philly other than you cannot open carry in philly and that they are very strict about giving permits out.
Fuck man no matter how much of a bitch it is to get one where you guys are from at least you aren't in Los Angeles Cty, California where you have NO way of getting one..
Your laws are fairly similar to ours, except we don't need the references, we just fill out the paperwork, pay the cash, take a photo, take a finger print of each of your fingers, and wait a month to do background checks etc
in va all you need is to fill your paperwork out, show evidence of a firearms safety coarse, get it notarized, pay your fee and wait for your permit in the mail
When I got my CCW here in VA, the classroom hunters's safety course I had in 6th grade at my school counted as my training. I took that certificate, a copy of my photo ID and the application printed from the VA state police website to the clerk of court. It only cost me $15. After my background check, they called me about 3 weeks later to come pick it up.
indiana your dont need permit to buy handgun go in pay for it and go after back ground check permits go do paper work fingerprint photo and wait for 4 to 6 weeks and pay 125.00 for lifetime permit city denies you state wont if you meet standards no test no shoot scary uh!! ive bought 25 to 35 handguns over the years easy!!
i live in cambria county and all i had to do was go to the court house pay 35$ show them 3 forms of id. fill out the "are u crazy" fourm get my picture taken and walked out of the court house with a id card fifteen min. later. no waiting.
Fully agree with you on the range thing. Police should make shure you know your gun and how to operate it correctly and safely. Maybe teach a bit the self defence laws like don't shoot someone when he's running away etc..
Vermont and Alaska have it right....if you can legally purchase a handgun, you can carry it. The second amendment is all the 'permit' any of us should ever need. We don't require people to pass a test to make use of their 1st amendment rights and we should not for the 2nd amendment rights either.
Hey marbles, I lived in the Burgh for about 3 years on Mt. Washington and worked in Station Square. I never carried there, as I was younger at the time, but I think it's interesting that it differs by county in PA as well as other states. I now live back home (but still in PA), but I had to only hand in my app, pay the $25 fee, they did the check by calling in which took all of 10 minutes at the most, took my photo, printed a license, and handed it to me on the spot.
Here in AZ we have to complete similar documentaion as what you have in PA. In addition there is a minimum 8 hour course, which includes qualifying on the range. Most of the course, atleast where I attended, discussed the responsibility you are taking on when you carry concealed. It also covered several different types of CCW firearms and carry systems. The instructor showed us all 8 of the firearms he was carrying that day.
We need open carry sooooo badly in Texas. I'm tired of hiding it and having to tuck my gun away on me. Just let me put the damn thing on my hip, then there is prob a less chance some dumbass is going to try and do something.
Fl concealed carrypermit requires you to take a course on the rules of engagement, places where you can't carry, and basic knowledge of gun laws. After about an hour, you fire one round on a range and if you don't kill anyone, you pass. The state simply makes you fill out the form asking the same questions about felonys, etc. and takes a picture and your fingerprints and you have your permit. About $125. or so as of this year. J R
I think it more of a money thing with tx cuz its so many of us! but i really hate taking that long class! Yeah i think ya'll should take a writen test and shooting test! Cuz here u can sum laws u may not know that they will teach u! Ex u cant carry in a club cuz it make most of its money from alcohol and u can drink there but its ok for u to carry inside a liquor store! Or at least a shooting test! But i like ya'll way a lil better cuz u dont have 2 sit in a class all day! Great vid
Oh, and I actually agree with the state required tests as done elsewhere. I think most people would agree that there should be a driving test for those seeking to operate a car. Why should firearms be much different? You can be as irresponsible at the range as you want(although see how far it gets you). When you bring that pistol into the domain of society however,I sleep better knowing you're an asset and not a liability.
I live in Philly, and let me tell you...you need two references, but both of them need to fill out forms. You provide your own Photo, and you have to report to the Phila Police Dept, where you fill out more forms, get interviewed, fingerprinted(which I think is true everywhere) and pay your Non-Refundable $25 money order or cashier's check. Then you wait your state ordained 45 days for a response, except it's actually 90 days (Our mayor and Police chief set this up due to "population size")
@Faxu See Same State different rules! No fingerprints here one form amd 25$ Dam just strange how different it is and it is the same State!! Thanks 4 the info!
I just wanna say FUCK YOU to CA and NY lol and a few other gay states where they have dumb fuckin gun laws. Good video and sorry for my French lol Yenz out!
Yeah sounds alot easier in PA from what I've heard, alot of people think that Texas is such a gun friendly state, and it is to an extent, if u have a clean record u pretty much have free reign when it comes to buying, selling, storing & carrying firearms, but u have to go through so much buerocratic red tape to prove your record is clean that is become a pain in the ass. The only bright spot in sight is that the term "constitutional carry" had been floating around the state legislature lately.
@NeverEnuffAmmo Yea come back and look ant the comments dude lives in Philly same state and has to get his a different way! Messed up shit! Thanks for the vid man!
@Lookinformemarbles Yeah, UrbanCombatSurvivor lives in Philly & he told me the same thing, basically says he's going to get an out-of-state license that's honored on PA because it's easier than getting one in Philly ...... it's crazy it can be that different in the same state.
I agree, there should ALWAYS be a gun safety course require, but, in trying to get that in, the government could definitely screw it up and make the whole process more difficult
@TheMrBicknell hello, not being a wise ass..... but I've got a true story to share with ya. Here in Mass. we have always had to attend a basic safety class and each city or town chief has final say, my chief only accepted this one certified guys class, and 3 yrs after i took his class he shot himself over a divorce and died. In New Bedford the instructor there ( police officer) shot himself cleaning his glock or so he told me at the range.......... I think each of us should teach safety at home
@ITHINKUREALESUK lol safety should always start at home, that doesn't change that passing a safety course should be a mandatory for concealed carry(moreso to ensure people know the laws regarding using said weapon). I envy you all, as I live in Canada, where unless you can provide the government a valid employment related reason(i.e. private investigator) there is no concealed carry.
In my county Riverside, CA . We have to fill out a 42 page packet. Have to have good cause to issue or must be a victim of a violent crime to even be considered.
3 Character references. Interview with the CCW unit. You are limited to 3 handguns per permit and have to quality at a range with each. If you are caught with a handgun not on your permit they will throw your ass in jail. The permits are good for only 2 years. give 2 pictures.
When it expires you have to go through this again! lol
Good vid man. I completely disagree about the test. The 2nd amendment doesn't remove personal responsibility. If you're buying and carrying a gun, I think mother government shouldn't have to test you, you are responsible for your actions at all times.
The rest of PA is great, here in Philly they take you to the cleaners and do everything they can to block you getting a LTCF...
I'm in suburban Philadelphia..Montgomery county specifically. I have to first go to my local police station and submit a 'Local Police Check' form first for a 'locally performed' background check.

Lookinformemarbles 1 year ago
@Lookinformemarbles Yeah, UrbanCombatSurvivor lives in Philly & he told me the same thing, basically says he's going to get an out-of-state license that's honored on PA because it's easier than getting one in Philly ...... it's crazy it can be that different in the same state.

I agree, there should ALWAYS be a gun safety course require, but, in trying to get that in, the government could definitely screw it up and make the whole process more difficult
TheMrBicknell 1 year ago
@TheMrBicknell hello, not being a wise ass..... but I've got a true story to share with ya. Here in Mass. we have always had to attend a basic safety class and each city or town chief has final say, my chief only accepted this one certified guys class, and 3 yrs after i took his class he shot himself over a divorce and died. In New Bedford the instructor there ( police officer) shot himself cleaning his glock or so he told me at the range.......... I think each of us should teach safety at home
ITHINKUREALESUK 1 year ago
@ITHINKUREALESUK lol safety should always start at home, that doesn't change that passing a safety course should be a mandatory for concealed carry(moreso to ensure people know the laws regarding using said weapon). I envy you all, as I live in Canada, where unless you can provide the government a valid employment related reason(i.e. private investigator) there is no concealed carry.

Well I am patently waiting for the castle doctrine to pass

The rest of PA is great, here in Philly they take you to the cleaners and do everything they can to block you getting a LTCF...

i bet texas has you do more things because there are lots of people there
