I'm am so wanting to use 5:00 - 7:00 in my lesson tomorrow because we are talking about subject pronouns. LOL I think the kids would get a kick out of this!! XD
"The Sabbath Prayer" is the most beautiful song. I loved it so much I learned to sing and play a duet of that song on the omnichord. If you don't know what an omnichord is, look it up! :)
@777MetalDude there is no such thing as a Jewish accent as there is no such thing as a Christian Accent. You are probably thinking there is because many of the famous Jewish people that you know are from Brooklyn in New York City and that is a very distinctive accent. And in this movie the people are speaking with a slight Russian accent as it takes place in Russia, so you may want to do that accent and call is Russian since there is no Jewish accent.
Ah! This and "Do You Love Me" are my favorite songs in this movie. That's saying something, too, since I like ALL the songs. I really like "To Life", but that's mostly because I like watching those awesome dancers. Oh, and the Bottle Dance, of course. Actually, all the songs and dances!
@777MetalDude Since they would've spoken Yiddish, which is based on German, that would be a start. If you want to hear Yiddish sung, search on videos of Jan Peerce singing one of the Jewish melodies, "Momele" or "A Dudele" would be good. I'm not Jewish, but I grew up with the album back in the 19-never-you-minds.
So THAT'S how they worked back in those days... "Is he a good man? Yes. And will my daughter go hungry? No. Okay, awesome!" I'm so glad I didn't live in those times. >.<
A timeless and beautiful movie, no worse than the original production; better in some ways. Isaac Stern is (was) a genius. I'm sitting with a lump in my throat - again. Thank you so much.
I am SO glad I live in a century where I am free to chose a husband on my own. I think I'd run away from home if I were to be matched with a man 3 times my age and twice as round.
@LMA629 Back then, fatness was a sign of great wealth. Hence the words "I see my wife, my Golde, looking like a rich man's wife, with a proper double chin." It was survival of the fattest.
he kissed a mezuzah, it contains the shema inside it, in the Torah is says to write it on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates. so in doing this they fulfill the commandments and reminds you continually when you come home or when you leave about G-d, at my home we even have them on the bedroom doors.
My grandparents on my father's side, being very proud Jews, love this movie. I myself, being half Jewish, enjoy it too. We always laugh our heads off at the moment shown at 7:48! It is so funny.
How can you be half a religion? You either believe something wholly or you don't. You can't split abstract things like that in half. Its your choice to believe whatever you decide to believe, whatever makes you happy. You'll just confuse yourself worrying about "abandoning" one faith and following another.
No it isn't vampire. You're a Jew if you're born from a Jewish mother or if you convert to Judaism. You stop being Jewish when you convert away from Judaism.

@ellatmontagu99 You're talking in terms of religion. zcm007attack is in fact Jewish ethnically, even if the Orthodox or Conservative sects won't accept him unless he officially converts.
Why can't you be half a religion? I know a girl that's half-Catholic, and half-Buddhist. She follows certain doctrines of Catholicism, and certain Buddhist ones. She meditates, and believes in saving herself until marriage, etc.
