Based on the FCC, SDV may be a different animal in a few years. And few places actually have SDV. Series 5 will probably be out before it's hashed out, thus Tivo customers paying for something they may never use.

Tom Rogers sounds like he's delivering disappointing annual results to a bunch of angry shareholders. He needs more life and excitement if he's trying to introduce essentially a new product. He sounds reluctant, not excited.

Anyway, Tuning Adapters are only needed in areas that use SDV and if I understand it correctly, the Tuning Adapter is a requirement of the service provider (cable, etc.) by law and it's specific to each provider. Why would TiVo put that in their product and furthermore - who's to say that the cable companies will be able to work with what TiVo creates? Unlike CableCards, I don't think there is a Tuning Adapter "standard".
