I just heard this song for the first time and loved it. I found it by typing the first few words into Google and the found the matching lyrics and then the name and the video. Thank you Google (-:
Great song. They sure don't make them like they used to.
This song so fits our existence at this time of evolvement. Only our new home though is the universe our true existence. Conciousness is love, love knows itself through US!
Perfect, a little shakey start with to much reverb but the sound man dialed it in fast, and these guys were relaxed and in the zen mode, A lot of these so called sound engineers don't have a clue at getting a good live sound mix/recording, these poor musicains have to deal with bad or low sounding monitors and bad stage mixes, but when it is done right everyone can relax and get into the vibe of what they are trying to create like this band did.
@Unshackledtruth how cool - i'm not familiar with such technical details, but it must be nice to hear the subtleties as you do. are you a sound man (or woman) yourself? i was never aware of such complexities till the documentaries came on about "The Making of . . . " such and such an album. Thanks for sharing
@blueinfinite No just another musician adding my 2 cents, I have a bad habit of being critical about music, I am very hard on myself as well and other band members and it gets me into trouble sometimes, I shouldn't be so critical and let things be and roll with the punches and if it doesn't work out then it wasn't meant to be. Music is very emotional and musicians tend to be emotional and sometimes unstable as well.
Thanks for posting this, It takes me back decades and to a time I met my wife. we have been married almost (30) years two daughters, three grandsons later. I remember going to an amusement park with her coming home I heard this song on the radio and realized I loved them both. Thanks, again.
@philbelair That's what I was thinking! (so you Must be right lol) I just listened to the original radio version & like this one better for vocals and overall. That doesnt happen often. Except the very ending sustain on this one, im not so into.
PLEASE join the Dean Ford Singer/Songwriter Facebook group to get our #s up! We're hoping Dean will do a live chat. Listen to Reflections of my Life and remember what a great Singer/Songwriter he is. Jimi Hendricks said he had the best song of 1967. Then, INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TOO! THANK YOU!

finally i have found the song ive been looking for :) this song plays at the place that i work ALL THE TIME and i finally found it... you have made my day
You're right. This time I watched his mouth more closely and I could tell what he was saying, at least part of the time. It was just so far off the first time I saw it that I thought it was the right song with a different video. Thanks! Even though the song sounds sad I've always thought it sounded beautiful!
Someone can hear Abraham, Martin & John by DION and literally be affected by the sad loss of 4 American culture icons. I may hear it and fondly be reminded of my Dad, out on our patio, Bar B Q ing in the summertime. Both feelings are REAL and JUSTIFIED. This is the power of good music and BOTH evoke good and bad...happy and sad. NO ONE person can speak for another if he or she has NOT walked in their shoes or gone down their paths.THANKS
I just wanted to tell you, what you said in your comments here is so beautiful and described exactly what I felt in my heart when I heard this song. Thank you , you were right on track here.
You either really are, or have convinced yourself, that you are depressed by the events of the 60's ??!! The events you mentioned were not pleasant, but there were so many that were! I hope that you are happy now-------unhappiness is such a waste!!
Thank you for that incite into my state of mind. Apparently, you lived through them and were not effected by them. Good for you. Events such as those did affect me. Did I even infer that I was depressed, NOW? No, I didn't. Your concern about my "happiness" is very touching. Are you kidding me? If you make a comment, bring something to the table. Don't make one just because you can. Who are you to tell me what I felt, or should have felt. How arrogant you are. Goodby!!!!!
I am 69 years old, served 9 plus years in the Navy, and suffered through the happenings of the 60s. Little events such as the murders of JFK, MLK, RFK, and numerous similar events in the south because of advocating civil rights, an ill conceived war in Viet Nam, and probably millions killed in the name of "liberty" in Southeast Asia, yes, I am one of those people who was very depressed when this song was released in 1970. I am sick of people who tell me those who were, were death-obsessive.
The lyric to this song has always epitomized, for me, the vague, defeatist sensibility of hippie and post-hippie culture--c. 1970--simultaneously nostalgic and treacly, while death-obsessive. "The world is a bad place." What can that mean? As opposed to what? It's dystopian and trivial, but asks us to accept its world-weary sorrow. Aaagh. And yet--that melody so sticky, can't get it out of my head.
I don't know how old you are but when this song came out the world was a bad place with the war and its about being in the Viet Nam War for a military man. Those drum beats were to impersonate mortar fire and gun shots. It was bad for our guys then as it is now. God have mercy on all of our service men and women for they would rather be back in their old home.
Absolutely!! I didn't mean that we owe ANY of them less gratitude!! My husband is career Air Force and I'm thankful for each and every one who is serving and has served before!!
Wow, real music. Not a bunch of rap "sang" by monkies, that can barely form a cogent thought.

Reflections of my life, oh, how they fill my sad eyes
All my sorrows, seems like only sad tomorrows
Take me back, (take me back) to my youth
The world is (now) a bad place, a bad place
A terrible place to live

I'm not EXACTLY sure what you're saying, but
I find that I agree with you!! I was a teen in the 70's and found them strangely odd---but they were what you made them!!
To kaptainess--
The Viet Nam War was fought with enlisted and drafted military. (If you didn't enlist you got drafted)
ALL of our military, today, are enlisted men and women. They are VOLUNTEERS, and we owe them IMMENSE gratitude!!
Thanks for this post------I had forgotten about this beautiful song.
