Pennywise isn't supposed to be funny, and the current top comment (that he is) is for me one of the biggest reasons why this film fails. He's supposed to be scary. For someone who read the book & loved it enough that it's my favourite King novel, among my favourite ever novels, and I adapted a character name for my YouTube name, the film reads, in way too many places, like it's trying to undermine the book's scariness. Bring on the apparently upcoming remake. Also, the book's good ending please.

@rtozier2011 That really was the only reason, he isn't supposed to be a person who acts happy about taking victims or acts in a funny/bubbly way. He's supposed to be a flat faced hardcore child killer. It's mainly the way he looks, in that he doesn't look like one of those scary clowns, he's fat and looks kind of timid. It's all about the character. The great thing about the book is it didn't give you the chance to laugh because there was always something about him that was hidden.

@rtozier2011 I think you are right in a way but at the same time he is a clown. Clown's are supposed to be funny to lure the kids in. He is happy because he takes much pleasure in terrorizing people, scaring them and killing. In the the book he is described as a clown who looks like ronald mc donald. I felt that the movie was very scary and good because the book is more than 1,000 pages and you can't fit in every detail but the ending coulc have been way better.
