@claudetaiwan Zen stories don't always make "sense" unless you think of things in terms of direct experience. Try watching some Alan Watts where he talks about Zen for an introduction.

I recommend you to go to google video and type "Hyon Gak Sunim", there is a video of him at FAU Davie Campus giving a fascinating Dharma talk, probably the best zen dharma talk I've heard IMO, cheers.
