@BERNIE6164 navy gone now i'm afraid.remember the star pub (now nelsons) mostly deserted,except for gosport chav scum.no fun any more.It never was a palace but it was a lot of fun LOL .few old timers like me hangin on but no fun any more.

Gosport is one great big council estate and the people are fuckin ugly and stupid.

I used a lot of those pubs in the Seventies and Eighties (especially the Brockhurst and Anne's Hill ones). They were always crappy and probably deserved to be closed. And there were four times as many pubs in 1945 as there were in 1980! It's all basically the arse-end of the naval trade.

@Anfxyz Wrong! The harvest Home was a great pub in it's day. These were proper locals not like all the chains of pubs such as wetherspoons that you have nowadays, the pub used to be the heart of the community now it's just some where to go and pour shots and alcopops down your neck before kicking some poor sods head in.

Mind you if they start selling dog turds in KFC packaging then they are on to a winner in Gosport, Coz as far as they'r concerned it is very expensive foreign food being dished up in a posh restaurant,

first theres the shitty stone beach then there is shitty hospital then theres the shit hole of a town that has no desant clothes shops are aparently building a kfc if so fuckin right but i dont expect they will we got a subway tho thats all right and theres pigeons everwere the kings head was the best pub in gospot but they closed it down and now its a shop then the flats are rowner well thats the biggest shit hole in gosport dont need to say no more

Well, what can I say. I was raised in the Gosport area and worked in the area until 1970, after which I moved to Lancashire.

I was back there last year for a couple of weeks (after a 40 year absence) and found the place to be quite decent.

Anybody can film a few drab buildings and streets in anytown and create a depressing picture. If you want to see a run down depressed area try visiting some parts of Lancashire. At least Gosport still has some job vacancys

For a really false look at how Gosport is try the discover gosport avi put on here by discover gosport, thats the video that prompted me to do this in the first place half of it is filmed in portsmouth and the rest is just blue skies and sailing boats which could be any seaside town.

I suggest you make your own youtube video about Lancashire you could use the KLF's tune It's Grim Up North as your soundtrack though i fear your fellow inmates might lynch you.

@socknrolla I did not say it is miserable in Lancashire, only that some parts are run down and depressed, I cannot return to Gosport at present as I own a house and have a decent job in Lancashire, One would be an idiot to just walk away from such. However when I retire I shall be returning to the Gosport area.

I used to think Gosport was awful when I was growing up and thereby forced to endure eighteen years of the place.

It seems that somehow it's now worse... surely that's an achievement in itself.

Lived in Gosport for over 15 years and really miss the place ... I have heard stories about it`s demise , but hey you`ve got the coast countryside a lovely marina and pompey just across the water -- There are a lot worse places believe me
