Only difference I could hear between this version and the 1994 original was that the original's highs were getting clipped in this version and that can be attributed to YouTube compression. Play both versions through an FM modulator and I bet they sound identical.
"Microbots Trance Dance Mix" from "Always Remixes (Single) (LCD Mute 152)" would have been a much better choice.
This song has special memories for me. My good friend Ricardo Villa recently married his long-term partner kev from the official Erasure forum and they played the 2009 remix as they tied the knot. Beautiful.
I much prefer the orginal 7" ,extended mix & b side 'Tragic'(one of Vincey's finest inSTUMMentals), though I've always found the track a bit too whiney. I much prefer 'Run to the Sun' off 'I say I say I say'. I do hope Mike Cosford paints a new sleeve to complement his brilliant ones that came with the singles & LP(I have them all as posters).
My favourite song of all time - back out again!!! Download the track singularly from iTunes otherwise it won't count on the singles chart! Love it, LOVE it!! XXX
This remix is very weak compared to the original. The backing vocals have largely gone, and this significantly underpowers the last few verses. If you don't know what I mean, compare 2:50 on this version with the same point on the original.
This is actually a new remix commissioned for the release of "Pop 40 Hits," to be released this month. It differs little from the original mix--the main change being a pumped-up bassline.
I really discovered the group at this time. OK so I was quite young but I think a lot of younger fans discovered them around this time. One of my favourite songs of the 90s, let alone of Erasure.
There's a really simple answer to that. On the first "Pop!" compilation released in 1992 the opening track was Who Needs Love Like That (since it was their very first single). That was the track that was remixed and released as a single. On the 2003 compilation "Hits!" Oh'Lamour was the opening track and also the one to be remixed/released as a single.
So, since "Pop2!" is in chronological order too like the rest, the first track is Always. Once again they have chosen to follow the tradition...
IMO, it sounds like they just added more bass and tightened up the ambient synths. I like their music but I've always thought most of their songs could do with more bass.
There's hardly any difference between this and the original! Even Sherlock Holmes would have difficulty telling them apart! They could have shot a new video too. Oh well..
Hmmmm...sounds more like a re-master than a remix. I had hoped for something more along the lines of the 1999 version of Only You by Yazoo, or the glorious GRN and Koishii & Hush club mixes on the Storm Chaser E.P. It's still a lovely song ofcourse, but to make fans buy a compilation of songs they already own, a really different version of Always would have been nice. Or an old-fashioned extended version, by Vince himself, like the 12 inch of Nobody's Diary by Yazoo!
I like Erasure but this mix is very similar to the original. And then they could make a new video for ite, maybe a second chapter of this story. Instead of PSB, Erasure don't often make great videos. Anyway, I'm happy for their new best of and remix album. I hope in some live show in 2009...
I love Erasure but they have the worst videos of any artist I have ever seen. With all there money can't they get someone to make a great video and Andy Bell needs to not be in the video unless he is in drag. That hair piece is sick... takes away from his angelic voice....
That's the most important thing about ERASURE....their music no the videos....there are many artist who have great videos and a really bad music....Cheers!!!Anyway....I love ERASURE.....
Their best album by far, to my ears, is 'I Say I Say I Say' it still sends shivers down my spine despite having played it to death.... Oh I do like their version of Solisbury Hill tho... and some of the other tracks from 'Other Peoples Songs'..... And their concert - 'The Tank, The Swan and The Balloon, is still the best concert I have ever been to ...... (I'm almost 39 now EEEK!) look closely and you'll see me on the DVD.... ;o) Let's go back to the early days Erasure and have a ball!!
Mmmmmm I loved the original version, but although not DRAMAtically different, it's even better.... I do, however, wish Erasure would go back to doing what they do best, Phantom Bride, Blue Savannah, Leave Me to Bleed, etc...
The whole point of a remix is to make the original different. There is not enough difference in this mix to call it a remix. A remix should be done from the ground up, using only the original vocals. This is way to similar to the original.
No, it's not really. The whole point is to make it sound more contemporary, and it that I think JW has been successful. The "Pop!" mixes are obviously supposed to only be polished and updated. If you listen to "Who Needs Love Like That (Hamburg Mix)", which was the single release from the first "Pop!" compilation, then you'll hear that basically the only difference is in the thicker beat added, hence making it sound more 90's.
What's the bloody point in this?? It's almost exactly the same as the 1994 one. I take it they're not going to actually release this are they?? - Doom! if they do. Music has moved on guys/mute!!
I'm a big ERASURE's fan and I do know is not much difference between the original version and this 2009 version....this one has a little more sounds effects....anyway...I like both versions....I love this one cause it sounds so close to to original 1994 version.......Bravo ERASURE!!!!!!!!!
As a casual fan... I wouldn't have noticed this was different if you hadn't told me. Which just shows this is completely and utterly pointless. I might as well just listen to the original.
I can't WAIT for the 2009 "Drama" remix! The only problem is that I live in the states and it seems that all of the cool music out of the U.K. takes *FOREVER* to get over here! You wouldn't BELIEVE how long it took for me to be able to buy the Yazoo remixes...
Even though I somehow would have hoped for more 'different' here, I prefer this to the original. The later which I've always(!) felt was slightly too high-pitched and subsequently felt a little icy. With this more modern, thicker sound, it feels softer to my ears. Who knows though, perhaps maybe JW has lowered the vocals a bit as well...
That somersault were true or was a dubber?
