we tried on on a moderate river with a fair flow and it died in 1 mile of use, we then tried a 45 pound thrust minn kota 24v and it barely made headway in the river, then we fired up a small Evinrude 3 hp and it took us upstream, down and all over the whole day, about 12 miles of flowing river all on less than a gallon of gas.
Life of Li-Ion batteries varies from about 1 - 10 years. If you get them hot, they die quickly, so you want to keep them cool. This means max speed is not so good for them. Deep cycling is also not so good and you want to keep them at about 50% charge worst case, so you've cut the distance to half. These days there're good battery monitoring system for Li-Ion, and I'd like to see them integrated into the electronics. I'd also like to see high energy Lipo batteries in these as well.
@adventurecrew how can that be? 30 mins to 6 hours? huge difference how is that? i was thinking of getting me one of those :) they do look pretty good

Most portable and efficient electric outboard on the market. Expensive yes, but never having to buy gas does help.
It collapses up so small, yet has a ton of power!
Its the perfect partner to an inflatable boat because it all can be shoved in the back of a hatchback, van or truck.

Hello, it will last from about 30 minutes to 6 hours on one battery. You can see more specs on Torqeedo's website under the model 801 Range.

How long will the lithium ion battery power the Torqeedo Motor?

Yes, it can be used in salt water. May consider rinsing it off after use.

Just out of interest, is this motor suitable for saltwater use, or is it fresh water only?
