I'm so glad I got to see them in 2000 with John (I was 16). The day I found out he died I went and got a tattoo of a moon (for Keith) with a big black spider hanging onto it (for John).
An old friend of mine is Steve Bundrick ( Rabbit Bundrick's nephew). I got him mad on day when I said does Rabbit have to play keyboards on every song? The old pre-Who's Next songs had little to no keyboards. It really makes those songs sound aweful with keyboards.
I hate to hear about anyone dying at a young age and John at 57 was to me a young age. I really hate to hear that drugs were involved and John was doing cocaine when he died. This should be a lesson to anyone doing drugs..it can kill you! John should have been around another 20-25 years.
@dongtingwong Thats Rock and Roll? My hat is off to John! Still getting up to all that at 57! I know lots of straight boring people who died alot younger! Not experiencing whatsoever the lifestyle of a rock star! I dont think he wouldve been the man he was if he didnt do what he did. They all did in those days! Look at the quality of music? This squeeky clean image is for x factor types with no real talent! I bet pete and roger miss him alot. John and keith were an amazing force! Good die young
The Who were my second concert ever...in 1989.Still one of the best bands I've ever seen .I wish I would've been able to see them during the Keith Moon years, but unfortunately I wasn't born until 1969.The Who are Rock' and Roll's Poster Band...I mean that in the most respectful way!
I heard about it on the radio the day it happened, I was on the back porch relaxing, and on the news I heard "Won't Get fooled Again" (opening part), then info about John's death. It really was sad to hear.
(try not to get offended here:) There's no "h" in Entwistle's name.
Keith Moon's death was a mortal wound, Entwistle just finished it off. But I comment Pete and Roger for carrying on.
In my previous post I meant to say "commend," not "comment." (typo) I said "no offense" because last week on a Pink floyd discussion I told a guy to spell David Gilmour's name "G-i-l-m-o-u-r," not "G-i-l-m-o-r-e" as he did. I didn't mean anything by it, but he cussed me up one side and down the other. You'd swear I insulted his mother or something.
Back to Entwistle: The music world really is worse off without him.
@5jerry1 Agree, I don't think you'll ever see another bass player with his level of talent and natural ability. He wasn't just a bass player,he was more than that. When you see the Who today it's still hard to believe he's not there laying down those melodic bass lines.
I had bought tickets to see The Who for my 4th time on this the 2002 tour but was soon horrfied when I heard breaking news that John Entwistle had died. I just couldn't bare to see them without John (who I had seen and met on his solotours twice as well. I ended up selling the tickets. I'll always love Pete & Roger (and Zakk is a great drummer) but I wanted to keep my memories of them with John who is absolutely irreplaceable.
@tomthefunky I completely agree with your points that (a) I as well can't believe you had the audacity & chutzpah to sit in mock judgement of me, and (b) yes - your remarks and demeanor do sound on par for a 16 year old... You have never nor could you walk in my shoes son. I'm way past 40 and don't need it. Go piss off jerk.
@tomthefunky Yeah, having an argument over who is a "True" fan of anything definitely makes you sound like a 16 year old. With someone who wasn't even bashing the band or looking for your empathy, just saying that the thought of The Who without JE was too depressing to see. I feel the same way - I haven't seen them since. So you're more of a true Who fan than I am. In the immortal words of Pete Townshend - Fuck Off, Asshole - No one wants your empathy for selling a fucking concert ticket.
WTF 8:11 of footage and maybe two glimpses of Entwistle ?

I'd sooner watch The Who rehearse than most other bands in concert.

@st0ner65 Totally agree bro...John's lines were like Bach. It's painful to hear anyone else with Roger & Pete.
Please check out my Ox tribute channel...he inspired me to get all four of my fingers in the act...Long Live The OX!
