@mamakunem Had Godard wanted someone who spoke flawless French he would have cast a French actress. She's an American speaking French and of course she is going to have an accent. In any case I love her accent !
@Padmakshya She's supposed to be American, not French. An American with a bad French accent trying to play a French person would be terrible. An American playing an American with a bad French accent is just realism.
@kikiteka Nicely said, couldn't agree with you more. Happy birthday Mr Truffaut! Would have been 80 today! Great script, lovely cast ... wonderful movie!
I went to see her grave once. It's at Cimitière du Montparnasse in Paris. I had to place a flower there. Serge Gainsbourg is in the same cemetery. I gave him something too. Many, many celebrities rest here.

About five years ago I was having dinner in Brasserie Lipp in Paris when Belmondo arrived at the restaurant with his little dog and two women. His charisma was such that the whole place stopped and went completely silent for a second or two. He appeared to be seven feet tall. He was very gracious and quietly went to sit at his table. Before that incident it would never had occurred to me that he had such an overwhelming presence.
@22DexterFan Jean Seberg was hounded by the FBI, even abroad in Europe, and she went crazy, poor thing. She killed herself in 1979, or so they say. I'd say she was probably murdered by her boyfriend at the time. She was found dead in a car in a Paris suburb, but she had hardly been driving after an overdose of sleeping pills...
@22DexterFan Yes it is. And there is a lot more to this story. You will find the whole thing at Wikipedia. Just search for Jean Seberg and there it is. Her former husband, Romain Gary, also killed himself one year after her death, among other things. And since she was such an iconic actress, so gifted and so miserable, I felt it was a good idea to visit her grave in Paris. It is very easy to find, near the entrance from a metro station called Edgar Quinet. You will find that too at Wikipedia.
@MKUltra3 I'm very curious about your opinion. I have a "camera geek" friend who is very high on the technological advances of digital, as well as the money-saving element. I'm inclined to agree with you (I write plays, but have been contemplating going into film production) but I'd like to hear you elaborate on your opinion. What about film shot on 16mm and blown up to 35? How do you feel about that? Please respond! Thanks.
@goback - well, this is a two pronged attack on my part - I think most modern actors have that narcissistic, exhibitionistic, myspace superstar self-involvement thing going on, always aware of and lusting for a camera's attention, unlike more nuanced, subtle actors of half a century ago...and...although I really like the look of Red cameras (see Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience), its hypercrisp look, even altered in post, is no match for 16 or 35mm film's mood setting abilities...
J-P's "Michel" character in this movie was a hoot. This film was funny, enjoyable and easy to watch. It's nice to watch a piece of work that's unlike the mainstream, knowing that at least there was clear intent behind the choppy editing cuts, etc, as opposed to the incompetence of someone like, say, Ed Wood. Alphaville - although frequently confusing - is my other Godard film favourite with another great lead (who was funny too, but in a more miserly way): E. Constantine. Thx for posting!

Why not 8 centuries?"

I love this movie. It was revolutionary when it came out in 1960, and is still very, very good.

I can see why they renamed it "Breathless" for American audiences.
"About the Soufle" just doesn't capture the attention.

This movie is great, can you believe they did a remake in the 80's with Richard Gere? Horrible.

Biagiotti - I actually like the remake, even though I'd never compare the two.
I mean, it's a dumb, new wave 80s movie, but it's sort of entertaining
