i made one that was entirely based on gears and had 1 power source. when the front wheel dropped off the table, the gear assembly dropped down and powered a bridge arm that spanned the gap. when it hit something, it raised the assembly, and powered the robot across. it was hard to make.

From the contest rules:

"Objective: Build an autonomous robot that starts completely within a 12 inch by 12 inch by 12 inch square box"

They all STARTED in the box and ended in a box of the same dimensions, so no cheating there...

PS: the last one is the best imho (since it could repeat the process even if he had another gap ahead)
