I thought Shogun "slightly" won this one guys, but it's true in every combat sport. You have to BEAT the champ. He didn't do that. They both had some decent flurries and good movement, but you can't look at that fight and tell me that Shogun whooped the champ's ass. And that's what you have to do to earn the belt.
Shogun did more damage but I think Judges only count clean shots. If his kicks were checked or grazed any part of Machidas arm I don't think they award points for that. Also for a championship bout you have to earn a decisive victory to dethrone a champ. Low to medium roundhouses for five rounds is playing it too safe. Borderline cowardice.
i rooted for machida to win, but clearly this fight went to shogun. it doesn't take an expert to figure that out. after watching this fight, i know that ufc is either faked, (like wwe), or the judges are being bribed. shogun clearly dominanted machida. it would make much more sense if it was a draw rather than a win by machida.
i rooted for machida as well and when they announced who won, i was extremely surprised and then i got upset because it was NOT a fair decision. it was clear that shogun dominated the fight, not by just a little bit, but by alot. they need to get actual fighters as judges and not cecil peebles or any other person who doesn't know how to judge a fight properly.
Some rounds were not obvious and Machida has some amazing movement but what was obvious was Rua's forward aggression throughout and lots of visible power in those kicks. I'm not sure how you could give that fight to Machida.
All I know is I hope Shogun goes for the kill in the rematch. Apparently landing more strikes then your opponent for 5 rounds and battering his body into hamburger, is not enough to win a decision. It was very very close game. But machida won the game because machida succeeded more good attacks. Shogun succeeded many low kicks. But you can't get many points from low kick because low kick is like jab in boxing. Shogun failed to prove that he is superior to a champion.

Both guys have different styles, Machida is very elusive and you can't take points out for having that type of style. The fact of this whole matter is, in each exchange Machida came back enough to win it, he is a very technical fighter. He knows how to play it smart and he knows not every fight is going to be a highlight reel. Just look at his last few fights before Rashad.
judges go by effective striking, octagon control and aggressiveness. Now tell me why does Lyoto deserve to win? Shogun had more striking and effectiveness than Lyoto point goes to shogun. Neither fighter had octagon control, and aggressiveness clearly goes to shogun with the leg kicks to the legs and mid section not to mention forcing lyoto to constanly switch stances. The last 3 rounds showed machida to be very very slow due to those leg kicks so I would say that was effective. Yeah machida is a counter fighter but he really didnt push the fight. Shogun did.

Aside from Brock Lesnar who has been catered since his debut. But for Machida to over rated, he would have beat the nobodies, then his first big fight, he would have gotten demolished. OK, so 10% of the time the "you have to beat the champ rule" doesn't get applied and the champ losses the belt. But in that Rampage/Forrest fight. Rampage lost favor because in the end he appeared to be visibly hurt. Whereas Griffin could keep going another few rounds. And whats up with all the hostility?! I thought Shogun "slightly" won this one guys, but it's true in every combat sport. You have to BEAT the champ. He didn't do that. They both had some decent flurries and good movement, but you can't look at that fight and tell me that Shogun whooped the champ's ass. And that's what you have to do to earn the belt.

Shogun did more damage but I think Judges only count clean shots. If his kicks were checked or grazed any part of Machidas arm I don't think they award points for that. Also for a championship bout you have to earn a decisive victory to dethrone a champ. Low to medium roundhouses for five rounds is playing it too safe. Borderline cowardice.

i rooted for machida to win, but clearly this fight went to shogun. it doesn't take an expert to figure that out. after watching this fight, i know that ufc is either faked, (like wwe), or the judges are being bribed. shogun clearly dominanted machida. it would make much more sense if it was a draw rather than a win by machida.

i rooted for machida as well and when they announced who won, i was extremely surprised and then i got upset because it was NOT a fair decision. it was clear that shogun dominated the fight, not by just a little bit, but by alot. they need to get actual fighters as judges and not cecil peebles or any other person who doesn't know how to judge a fight properly.

Some rounds were not obvious and Machida has some amazing movement but what was obvious was Rua's forward aggression throughout and lots of visible power in those kicks. I'm not sure how you could give that fight to Machida.

All I know is I hope Shogun goes for the kill in the rematch. Apparently landing more strikes then your opponent for 5 rounds and battering his body into hamburger, is not enough to win a decision. Even though Forrest defeated Rampage by decision with leg kicks. Different rules for different fighters I guess huh?

It was very very close game. But machida won the game because machida succeeded more good attacks. Shogun succeeded many low kicks. But you can't get many points from low kick because low kick is like jab in boxing. Shogun failed to prove that he is superior to a champion.

shogun is muay thai and strikes are strikes. You keep kicking someone in the leg with muay thai strikes they will be slow at striking you. Both Brandon Vera and Antoni Hardonk have tko opponents due to leg kicks. Thats what muay thai is. Shogun also brutally attacked the mid section of machida.

I'm telling you guys, go to FightMetricdotcom, and you will plainly see, Shogun landed more strikes in all 5 rounds. How do you lose a fight when you out strike your opponent for 5 entire rounds?! Shogun is the real winner, despite what the crooked judges say. The rematch will probably be within a few months, but rest assured there will be one for sure.

Both guys have different styles, Machida is very elusive and you can't take points out for having that type of style. And Machida was definitely aggressive with his exchages, it's just the way they were carried out. The fact of this whole matter is, in each exchange Machida came back enough to win it, he is a very technical fighter. He knows how to play it smart and he knows not every fight is going to be a highlight reel. Just look at his last few fights before Rashad.

judges go by effective striking, octagon control and aggressiveness. Now tell me why does Lyoto deserve to win? Shogun had more striking and effectiveness than Lyoto point goes to shogun. Neither fighter had octagon control, and aggressiveness clearly goes to shogun with the leg kicks to the legs and mid section not to mention forcing lyoto to constanly switch stances. The UFC is rigged.

I have never seen anyone miss so much in 1 fight. and Machida countered every kick with a strait right hand to his face. and all his takedown ATTEMPTS he tried prolly every round and never got him even close to the ground Machida has to get some points for that also. other then that pretty much a DRAW

the constant leg kicks to the mid section and the legs were effective striking. If you know muay thai thats what mauy thai is alot of leg kicks that are hard hit inabling the opponent to move. The last 3 rounds showed machida to be very very slow due to those leg kicks so I would say that was effective. Yeah machida is a counter fighter but he really didnt push the fight. Shogun did.

SHUT UP! You clearly know NOTHING about MMA or the fight game! EVERY MMA site, millions of MMA fans, Dana White, Joe Rogan and many other MMA fighters say Shogun won! You know why they say that? Its because they actually watched the fight. Shogun controlled the pace of the fight, landed more strikes, attempted takedowns AND caused the MOST damage! You do not have to KO the champ to take his belt, a fight is a fight, regardless of the strap! Shogun had the PERFECT strategy and he is CHAMP!
