Calling it "pop" instead of soda is definitely a small town, rural type word. The closer you get to big city areas, the more people just call it soda. I can speak from experience as I've lived in New Jersey, California, and Kansas for years each.

i recommend almond milk as a good substitute. you can try either unflavored or vanilla as both are good. i use the blue diamond brand but i think silk makes one too.
