I've never heard better performances of the Rosamunde Overture by anyone. Mengelberg's early 1940's live performance is better sounding and seems to have a little more bite and drive but this earlier Telefunken recording is to be cherished. The earlier Mengelberg Telefunkens - through about 1938 - had a more intimate and less spacious sound that was very pleasing. However, the full open dynamics of the later Telefunkens is unbelieveably stunning - like the 1812 Overture.
