Actually in the comics Bucky was NOT an untrained soldier.Being a soldier is what he has been taught his whole life. He was trained by the same people that taught Cap and was used as a scout,sniper and assasin. Also Bucky was symbolic to the youth of america that even teenagers could make a difference in the war effort.
