Yes, the Beastie Boys are a punk band, but they should have realized they could have been making it harder for young blacks who had every single strike against them, especially in that day. This new generation thinks it was easy for blacks in the 80s, it wasn't. Blacks worked very hard so that non-whites can have the luxury of that perception today. The thing is, Def Jam wanted The Beastie Boys to act crazy and party like this when they played live because it was selling and did wonders for other rappers. The Beastie Boys grew old of it and knew their image was getting ruined, so they left Def Jam.
I felt the same way about the BB's when they opened up for RUN DMC back in 1987. I couldn't wait for them to get off the stage and I'm white. I like them nowadays, but I can certainly understand why LL would have felt that way back then.

Nobody did more than the Beastie Boys to mainstream hip-hop music and broaden its appeal to white audiences, who are now the largest consumer group for hip-hop music. The Beastie Boys helped you make millions more than you otherwise would have. I hope in retrospect you can appreciate what they did for you, your genre, and your pocketbook -- and the notoriety gained from their stupid behavior back then is a big part of what made it happen.

Instead of going up and singing and playing a guitar, they should be able to compose fitting beats to the content of the lyrics. Also, don't get me wrong, I like LL, and I liked Deep Blue Sea...I just thought the song was really goofy...kinda like how one of my favorite rappers, Ice Cube does all that disney shit now...I know..its all about money...
