The dub of this is great, and is even better in most regards. HOWEVER! There are two-and-a-half reasons why I will always prefer the Japanese version, and those reasons are: NORIO MOTHERUCKING WAKAMOTO, and JOJI GOD DAMN NAKATA as Anderson and Alucard respectively. The half reason would be Maaya Sakamoto as Rip Van Winkle (she's a great singer and does a pretty good "WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?!" voice)

As talented as Crispin Freeman is, nobody fits Alucard better than Joji Nakata.

Mmm, well I've always loved Japanese dubs but with Hellsing OVA I prefer the English because the voice actors have the accents of their character's origin and it adds depth to it. I'm sure the Japanese voice actors have accents too, but I can't tell because I don't speak Japanese. :D

This is what you call a deduction, Father Anderson is an Irish Catholic priest (sort of) and resides in Ireland. He was likely in Ireland for most of his ehh, construction, I guess would be the term? Basically while no one knows where exactly he is from, it's likely it's from somewhere in Ireland, hence the Irish accent. Either way, aside from Anderson, pretty much everyone else's voices work like chocolate and milk, well maybe not Alucard but then again you'd have to get someone from Turkey

I agree with you, the reason it works really is that the accents make sense, the characters are in England and English people don't walk around talking to each other in Japanese. Something like Akira that is set in Japan is better with Subs.

Though I'll personally put my preferences in the original, as many others seem to do, there should be no harm in enjoying a good show with dubs rather than subtitles (especially when animated).
