I gave up this technique after trying a few times and did it differently.

I went to the nearest slow-down button, pressed it when the Tox Box was at the right place, jumped back to the Tox Box as quickly as possible, jumped on top of it at the right time, to then quickly jump off and grab the star.

It's pretty difficult, and, mostly, extremely annoying.

The whole green-star arc of the game is full of shit. The first half of the game is flawless, but when the green stars are introduced it's like Nintendo didn't put in the same effort that they did with the rest of the game. Tons of green stars are unnecessarily difficult due to poor camera angle or placing the star just a little bit too high. Honestly, did they even test half of it?!

this start is so much easier with the triple jump, just wait till the block goes past you at the platform with the life and start jumping from there only took 2 goes to get it

i dont think you can get this star with luigi. i tried and tried and tried to do exactly what you did using luigi and couldnt get the star. tried it once with mario and got it.

@SkankinDevil89 I got caught in the underside of the Tox Box going around the cylinder and got catapulted into the green star as Luigi. It was a fluke, and was the only way I could get it.

twisty trials galaxy was a cheap throwback of ricco's harbor from sunshine

but the other throwbacks were only like 1 part of a level as an entire galaxy

Me and a friend were trying to get all the green stars while he's over...we are currently 10 stars away :D But we were stuck on this one for quite some time...it seemed as though there was no possible way to get it....Thanks for showing us how you did it :P

OK, for any of you not getting on with the method above, I did it a different way. I used Luigi and I triple-jumped on the bit where that stupid annoying thromp rolls along.  I got it first time with this method.

That star was annoying. Its much easier with Luigi. All ya do is run behind the Tox Box after it passes you then triple jump when you get near. It may take a few tries, but it worked for me.

What I don't like about this game is that while the bosses are pretty easy, some of the mundane stars that are hidden in plain sight, like this one, are extremely hard.

Holy shit that star was a bitch....I finally got it after watching you do it.I tried using luigi but he sucks cause his triple jump move is totally different. At one point i died so many times trying I was able to collect 999 star bits in that level....no you can't go to 1000 =[.........anyways thanks dude =D

Damn, this is pathetic. I've lost like 50 lives trying to get the star (and I did), but that was because I didn't know the triple jump would work. I DIDN'T TRIPLE JUMP. NOW, THAT WAS THE HARDEST THING IN THE WHOLE GAME. I had to slow down the block, long jump all over the gap, wall jump on the block to get on it AND THEN, long jump on last time to get the star.

another way to do it is to go one square past the star (so the the Tox Box will land on you hollow side down). You'll be uphill from the star. Then when the box rolls past do a triple jump. I found this was safer because a failed jump will usually land you inside the box which will then drop you safely on the square you started from. Also with the steeper hill angle I was able to nail it on my 3rd try.

That's the awesome thing about Green Stars is that their usually several ways to get them!

@doctorseaweed I would just say do a triple jump + spin like in this video.  You know how the platforms in this level feel like you're being tilted to one side? Well time the jumps properly so that the tilt of the level is carrying you. You can also try hitting the nearest exclamation mark and bouncing off the slow rolling block. That's what I did for the 2nd star.
