many governments are privatizing ports in a 50/50 arrangement. KPA cannot privatize the entire port because of national security issues.
It is not the workers who are inept nor management. But the entire infrastructure. A port that can only be served by a 6% operational rail capacity (as opposed to 75%) in many other countries, is a sign of an inefficient infrastructure.
Good decision because this would have changed the pot into a jua kali entity. It was easy to see that the politicians singing the port privatization song had only one zeal: How to lay their hands on the port revenue? The port is a public good. President Kibaki, who understands the Kenyan economy better than any politician in Kenya today, should repossess all former government enterprises that were privatized as a result of wrong, inexperienced and mediocre advice from so-called expatriates.
Kibaki understands the economy? Ati he should repossess former government enterprises? Does this include Railways? Kenya Power? KENGEN? All these enterprises KIBAKI has shares in - he co-owns these businesses. So you think he understands the economy? You think he is interested in repossessing??? Why are Kenyans so BLIND? You mean you went to school and do not know that Kibaki partly owns Kenya Power? KENGEN? Kenya Railways? Where have you been???
Yes certainly. The government should repossess former government enterprises. I insist Kibaki understands how the economy functions more than anybody else in government. Give credit where it is due.
