Good thing we have these comments. Without them, I wouldn't have known that giving billions to huge corporations is what socialism is all about. I think Marx also said something about how corporations of the world should unite...
@ipxzor What good will it do to nominate someone who has little or no chance of being confirmed? Furthermore, it was the moderates and independents that elected Obama. If you look at his other appointments virtually all are centrists, as is Obama. Anyone who thought Obama was a stark raving mad liberal simply wasn't paying attention.
We don't need SCOTUS Justices who are there to serve a particular political ideology.
The republican party is self destructing. The powers that be want to eliminate the competition, so they are sabotaging the republican party with tea baggers.
@MrGnarus What we may very well be seeing is a tactic similar to the one used by Bush when he nominated Miers. Nominate someone you know will be a tough sell, and once that nomination fails (for whatever reason), nominate who you really want. Then, the 2nd nominee will sail right through confirmation.
@JBeatty17 I think that she'll probably be confirmed too, but I don't think it will be "easy". The GOP Senators have to make a good show for their constituents especially considering it's an election year. We'll know more in a day or two. Kagan is making the rounds today with the key Senators in leadership positions.
There was nothing dignified about Sotomayor's hearing. The entire theme of the hearing was nonstop about how Sotomayor thought that in some circumstances a latina can judge a case better than a white male, and then every day they propped those firefighters on the front row. I sure hope that town didn't have any fires that week.
@slimydick23 ...all the while ignoring that fact that Alito held the same views on that ability as Sotomayor. He had also stated his somewhat unique status as the child of immigrants gave him a unique perspective.
But they thought Palin was qualified to be VP and consequently President in case McCain who was 77 at the time was incapacitated (or died)? The GOP lacks any credibility when it comes to who is qualified or not.
@robinvan1983 ... well, as a matter of fact I do. Now, if you were expecting me to come back and define it for you... you're in for a let down. Go do your own g-damn homework... lazy bastard.
He's not a FULL ON Socialist, but he clearly admires Europe's Socialist Democracy model.
He has
Created a federal healthcare program, which will INEVITABLY lead to a single-payer system. He supported the bailouts, of banks, of car companies, of mortgage firms, and now foreign countries (we're helping bail out Greece). He's open to VAT. He's for big government. that's the biggest one. He honestly believes big government will be a good thing for America. that, in my eyes, is awful.
@asphyxiafeeling Had Obama not supported "bail-outs", our economy would be completely screwed. The large majority of loans to banks have been repaid with interest (somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 billion the last I saw), and GM has repaid a substantial portion of its loan, again with interest, 5 years ahead of schedule. Big government? Bush II was the de facto king of big gov, increasing the fed gov more than any President in decades. Do some research.
wanna know how GM paid their bailout money back? using MORE BAILOUT MONEY. IT'S BS! don't believe me? "do some research" yourself.
Just because someone doesn't support Obama's policies doesn't mean they supported GWB's. That's a weak excuse for Obama's out of control spending & expansion of government.. "oh well the repubs did it so we should do it too!"
These guys are taking the American people for SUCKERS, and folks like you are eating it up!
Wow Cornyn I can't imagine someone messing with our God given rights more than you did under the Bush admin. Focus now and help your oil buddies clean up the oil gusher before it's too late!
Why does the media even bother asking these old draconian republicans what they think about a policy or nominee pick by Obama? It's obvious what they're going to say before the mic's even on. You're just wasting bandwith and time doing these interviews.
@wontwice not all Texans are redneck racists who would vote for that idiot Cornyn. Who is nothing more than a Republican lap dog. Remember here in the Houston area we voted for the first openly gay female mayor. She won because people believed she could do a good job managing the city. So I still believe there is hope for Texas to some day kick someone like Cornyn to the curb. Go Bill White for Governor of Texas.
Cornyn once again demonstrates that he has no interest in governing. His only interest is regaining power. He cares not for what is best for the country.
Well after the weak claims of Palin beng qualified to be VP it's confirmed beyond doubt Republicans have a very skewed idea of what experience and qualified means.
Seeing as how Palin had more Executive Govt. experience than Biden or O'Dumba combined, your statement sends a very skewed message to the loons who'll believe your crapola.
@smegmajim LOL it's cute albeit disturbing how the tea baggers and Fox News drooling audience keep insisting being the mayor of a back woods town and a half term quittier Gov of the least populated state in the Union is experience. Oh yea and that piss poor academic record doesn't help either. That word salad she keeps calling a speech isn't helping the case either.

Miers was not qualified at all. She did so poorly on the test of her legal knowledge that she didn't understand basic legal principles.
I think they really hate Kagan because she clerked for two of the greatest judges in the last 50 years- including T Marshall
