hey people! being an artiste, specially a watercolor painter is not cheap. All good supplies are very expensive and out of reach of a common man like myself. Although i have a passion for art, yet this is the sad fact. I have family to feed and children to raise. it could be a good hobby if you have spare money and time.
The luminosity of sun filtering through clouds is best using a bleached white paper with the unpainted white at the center of the brightness surrounded by light yellow and oranges. Arches sells a bleached paper that is perfect for this. If you find yourself squinting when you view the painting, you know you have captured the effect. Great paper is extremely important. I have a ream or so of cheap papers that I stopped using for watercolor once I found out how important the paper really is.
Clearly, this is a teaser for a series of courses with a price tag! Can't afford them? You're not alone!
Oh well - Faber Birren was a distinguished author and colourist (colorist) (Google him!) who pioneered ideas regarding the creation of luminosity, lustre (luster) and other effects such as chromatic light in painting. It did not matter what your medium was - he taught you what the the psychological basics of such effects were. Remember his name, and buy anything he wrote. You won't regret it.
Sell it to the Jews.
