Answer for ZOE! I have a female and she speaks! It is an urban legend which I believed, myself, for a long time. My parakeet has 4 months! She says 6 words among which three small sentences. She begins to learn three other words. She has only to master them! Rose's parakeet is really a male! His "cire" does not present white around nostrils! ;o) Sorry for my bad english, I speak french!

@zoe911101 Hi Zoe, In the Pet store this bird was singing like a canary, that was sitting next to him..I figgured if he can sing like a bird he can surely talk..:)

The pet shop owner confirmed he is a male..

Is the fleshy part on your birds beak brown, or tan? this would make her a female..

@BirdieMaster1 If you look at her feathers in the sunlight, you'll see hues of pink,green, white, all the colors that are in a "Pearl" That's how he got his name.

He didn't mind, he says "how"s my old buddy Pearl" hehehe

Hi Rose, thanks for the reply.. Nice too know about how Pearl picked up the words and whistles. I will also try the same with Snowy and I believe Snowy is a male as his cere is also same in color as that of Pearl.

How old is Perl? I also have an albino parakeet "Snowy" I believe Snowy is little older than 2 years? But does not talk. How did you train your bird to talk? I would be happy if snowy can also talk please tell me how did you train your bird?

@bhatiashilpi Pearl is 10 yrs. He could whistle like a Canary when I bought him. I whisteled the "cat call" and "wolf whistle" for 2 weeks straight and suddenly he whisteled back to me.. MY whistle..His first word was "you're cute" we always kept a radio on but also spent alot of time talking to him..some birds just have a knack for talking. Are you sure you have a male? females really don't talk..

It's rare to see a fully white budgie. I had one once but died due to an infection in it's intestines. :( That was years ago when I was a kid. I want to get one so bad again.

If you can spend lots of time with a bird, consider a Green Cheek Conure. Best Companion, (like a dog)..

He's talking into a mirror,, and has couple more, however Music and water stimulates him to talk,  We had a partner for a short time, Pearl was much happier by himself..as he had us..

I'm not an expert, but I say take baby steps, They really don't need another bird Pearl was so happy by himself and with us. .Let him get used to you and start to talk probably 6 months then maybe another bird.

When I (Had) the blue one, as he got bigger he was mean to Pearl, so I got rid of him.. Pearl did teach that bird to talk a little bit..Perhaps because they were both males it was a bad idea..

That is correct with regulay budggies, however Pearl (male) fleshey part is light mauve..

By the color of the cere, the fleshy part above the beak. Adult male budgies have blue ceres, adult female budgies have brown ceres. When they are young, it's a little ambiguous. They all start out as a whitish pink, and then differentiate once they hit puberty.

Are you sure he's a boy, Flesh part on beak is Blue? I started with Whistles, cat call, wolf whistle,Kiss sound ect..I keep a raido on near him all the time.. He even taught 2 other birds to talk..We spent alot of time with him, always with us.

Say Give me Kiss. and make the kiss soud. and whistle..as often as possible..

Pearl answered me within 2 weeks.. guess he just had a knack for the language.

record your voice on your mobile phone saying hello and what ever his name is then play it back to him as much as you can, this worked for my budgie HE TALKS ! when you record it say it slowly and clearly repeat it over and over again leaving a pause between each time you say it, my male is 6 months old and sais loads having used this method best of luck

Wait.. that's a girl parakeet... but only male parakeets talk. I tried all four of my birds to talk but they... won't :P

Pearl is a Boy..posotively male..

I leave a radio on all day, and started to teach him with "whistles" about 2 weeks later he could answer the whistle..

my friend's bird stands in front of the mirror she put in front of the cage and he talks to himself i just went to her house and he was talking like crazy that bird inspried me to get 2 brids i just got them 2 days ago and they are like the cuteest things ever i love them.anyways nice vid i loved it.
