Yeah, it's a terrible promo video, a minimal budget thing. Head On was the 2nd single out of Automatic and Warners knew it would bomb. WEA really thought the Mary Chain were potential alt-rock million sellers round 1988. They had begrudgedly let the Reids do their own thing for the third album and, well, the record company hated the final result, they thought the brothers had messed things up. 23 years later Head On is probably JAMC's most recognizable track. Oh the irony..

It's sad to think WEA honchos hated the Mary Chain from day one and only had them in because people in the industry kept saying JAMC had everything to be the dark horse eventually winning the race... But then it's fair to say the shy, uncompromising Reids were, er, rather difficult to work with... Back in the day, making enemies and pissing people off in the music business seemed to be their favourite game

I also remember when the Sidewalking single came out in 1988, Warners thought it was going to be a hit as the band was at the peak of its popularity in Europe. So the word is Warners, for the 1st time had given the Reids a nice little allowance for the promo video... Except that, lol, Jim and Will spent as little as possible and pocketed the difference... Warners weren't amused.

Fabulous band , in fact my favourite band in all the world , this song is simply Aural Sex at it's best , when i put this song on my I POD at full blast and go out walking the already fabulous streets of London where i now live seem to become transformed into an even better place . When the Pixies covered this, I was working in format FM rock radio. I fought like hell to get this on the air and finally did, to thunderous disinterest. We were the only station within 150 miles working it, and I got a free Pixies show courtesy of the Elektra rep as a thank you, but nobody cared.
