It looks like you have cigarette smoke on there. You'll need to use a de-greaser to clean it off. You got it for a great price because it was dirty, but you have a great machine. I learned how to sew on my great-grandma's 127, I believe TreadleLady is correct. You might want to try 1 teaspoon of vinegar in 1 quart of warm water. Just use an old towel that you never want to use again, get it wet and wring it out real good and wipe it down. Enjoy!
Deny! Seems to happen at my house also when hubby washes dishes or other strange things occur. As long as he keeps making home made bread I won't complain. Careful with using cleansers on the painted surface with decals. You do not want to destroy what is left of the gold decals, cleansers can strip the gold and leave them silver looking. I'm overly cautious about cleaning the head and only use clear sewing machine oil or even baby oil on decals. My book goes into safe methods. Donna
@TreadleLady not so much for you since the post is over a year old but i was told by a restoration society to NEVER use oils on the decals since it makes them peel up faster! if cleaning was needed to use a slightly damp q-tip only...(slighty damp so as not to have moisture go under the decal and peel it up that way either)....then if absolutely needed moisten the q-tip with a mix of three drops non-lotion mild dishsoap diluted with two cups water...GENTLY wipe off dirt for even that can damage
Hi Brad, You've got a 1913 Singer Model 127, it's a vibrating shuttle machine. Do you have the long bullet shaped shuttle? It should be in the carrier under the slide plates. The center drawer is not missing a knob, that is a keyhole. My book will explain it all, it's the most common type of treadle machine. You've got a great old iron gal there, she will love you for getting her cleaned up. You will bond with her during the process. Fun, fun! I sell leather belts on my website. Donna
@TreadleLady thanks donna.model 127.that will steer me in the right direction to looking at pictures of other 127,s on the internet.cant wait to tear into it and get her shipshape. i happened to be washing the dishes a minute ago and just for kicks went out to my shop with a wet sponge and rubbed on the machine a little, and a bunch of crud came off.it might not be that far gone finishwise, after all. if my wife wants to know why the dish washng sponge is brown,,,,deny ,deny, deny!!!
@tgtbtri thanks tomislav! i hope you are enjoying your vacation and hope your trip to doctor was painless.talk to you soon. i will try and check tonight around8 pm my time and see if you are on chat.Razgovarajte s vama uskoro moj prijatelj
