The sauce isnt made with honey ... and the baklava is cut before cooking. If not when you put the hot syrup not everywhere in baklava gets it even. And if you cut after putting the syrup the dough looses crustyness, if you cut it after cooking nd before syrup the dough will be tore into pieces as it is too crusty. So its always cut befoer putting into owen.
It seems, dear Sinan feels so homesick:) Although I am far from home like you, I have had a chance to eat original baklava in Imam Cagdas' in Gaziantep/Turkey.

baklava is Greek guys. it was first made in constantinoupoli, now known as istambul when it was greek land by greeks. even many hundreds of years later the turks tried to claim the desert as turkish but lost the court case and the desert was paitented Greek.
yeah i really wonder why greek ppl think baklava is turkish when baklava means sweet in turkish, bit doesnt mean anything in greek! so i guess now everyone wonders where its really from huh?
Cuz it's extremely difficult to make Phyllo dough. Even professional chefs and bakers don't bother with the extensive process. It's far more convenient buying it premade, and the results can be just as good.
That's cool. It'd be great if someone posted a vid on how to make phyllo dough from scratch. I'm sure there are a lot of folks (including myself) that would love to make it. Maybe you could ask your mom to make a vid. :) Best folks to learn cooking from are the mothers and grandmothers.
@chivone21 So wrong you are. Baklava is Middle easter and Arabic only historically. Under Ottoman empire it has spread on occupied countries like Greece. Baklava is an originally Arabic food spread by Ottomans on a much larger Geography. Please keep your cheap knowledge for yourself.
Baklava is from Mexico!!! The great conquistador Cristobal Colon took it back to Europe, but the only people that were interested in it were the Greeks, that's why they are the ones that made it better!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!

baklava is originally assyrian it is first made in damascus.but turks have developed it really good. baklava is not greek..even feta cheesese is not greek it is macedonian.
Who gives a shit where it's from? As long as it tastes good, just eat the bloody thing and enjoy it! How sad is it to argue about where it's from? Everyone makes it! Chinese food is from China, yet we al eat it and lick our lips!
Actually Chinese Food in america is only slightly based on genuine chinese food from china. American chinese food is in fact american cuisine, being mostly developed in america.
why does every vid related to turkish culture turns into some platform with greeks, faggot lebs and armos whining about ownership claims. this food is turkish just as pizza is italian. although this aint the real thing some turks should chill and give credits to these guys for trying, most of you keep sitting on your asses polluting the most viewed page with episodes of turkish soaps.

I make mine by a recipe an old Greek lady
taught me ...
Instead of walnuts ... cashew & pistachio
about 90 % cashew ... & 10 % pistachio ...
& honey ... no sugar
otherwise it's the same recipe ...
I'm not saying ... yours is wrong in any way .
That is just the way I was taught to make it ...
But OMG ... it is not cheap to make & bake !!! ...

Cuz it's extremely difficult to make Phyllo dough. Even professional chefs and bakers don't bother with the extensive process. It's far more convenient buying it premade, and the results can be just as good.

True. But the taste is better.
My mom never buys it. She always make it with the hand.
We made it a several days ago. It was difficult, but the taste was damn good.
Besides, instead of buying Phyllo dough, you can buys special dough for baklava in the Turkish store.
