Just curious, but does this apply to open ended RPG's like Oblivion or Fallout? Or only guided RPG's?

The story to Mother 3 is guided and pretty linear, but doing that lets the developers really get the most out of the story and characters.

I think the problem is that they focus on the STORY, and there's basically no focus on gameplay whatsoever.

I'm looking into playing Daggerfall, at anyrate.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 had really linear stories when compared to the games that were out before them actually.

Oblivion's story was... very, very, very linear for an Elder Scrolls game.
