I've played 2d Sonic games. Aside for the music and ingame transformation it's boring after a while. I'd rather have cutscenes then go through not knowing why I'm stopping a fat man for 4 games. That's why I liked unleashed because it could do too things well. Sonic rush only did part of it. Maybe you have nostalgia and can't see the errors I see.

I have to admit that I'm a very nostalgic person. However, you have to understand that games were simple back then: Mario, Castlevania, all had few cutscenes but you knew what you had to do (kill Dracula, save princess Peach); it was the same in 2D Sonic games: you had to stop Dr. Robotnik because he wants to destroy the forest or turn the animals into robots. You don't absolutely need everything explained piece by piece with a cutscene - it just slows down the game.
