Epi-pen. that is epinephrine. I have never heard of that being administered for treatment of asthma attacks before. I have Asthma and I am also allergic to bee stings, I am going to have to ask my doctor if in the event I should have my airway close off like that. it would help at all. but I am a little worried about that because if take epinephrine and you don't need it it can Cause Cardiac arrest. which means you go into V-Fib and you die because your heart Quits.
Her problem could have been the altitude. I had asthma as a child. The altitude where I lived was only 500 feet above sea level. When I would be in a higher altitude like 9,000 feet I was so much better.
@armyguardmom so you think the Air might have been too thick.. or too heavy to breath. well.. IDK I used to have problems with it in Kansas, I moved to Denver and it noticed it wasn't too bad, but moved to Texas and it was near impossible for me to breath.. I figured it could have been the heat as well, or humidity.. That is an interesting thought.. Altitude
I have a nebulizer just like the one in the video. I use it when I need it. She's lucky it was right next to her bed. Another video shows a young boy running thru the house to get to his nebulizer. He didn't make it that far.
@armyguardmom I wonder why her Nebulizer wasn't working for her.. but it didn't look like she put the Saline and Albuterol in it.. IDK.. maybe she couldn't think.. because when you cannot breathe it is hard to think.. I almost died for this same thing when I was about 6.. it was one night I will never forget as long as I live.. I could not breathe at all it felt like I was trying to breathe through a straw.. was not getting any air.. I woke up my mom and she took me to ER.
@redyoshi1985 I am a nurse and also an asthmatic, it is possible that the nebulizer was set up to use at night so she would only need to turn on the machine. I encourage that as part of my discharge instructions before the patient leaves the hospital. The neb treatment some time is not enough and emergency intervention at the hospital is necessary such as epinephrine. If severe, may need additional meds to get the asthma under control such as prednisone, may take a week or longer to clear.
I had serious asthma as a younger kid, and have almost died from it many times. A lot of what i remember from when i was younger, was being in hospital. I'm okay now, but i still have moments when i cant breath.
@emily17xx, omg, that must've been scarey for you to see your mom, I would've been scared too if something like that happened to my mom, she has a heart problem. and sometimes i worry about her.
my mom has severe asthma and is like allergic to everything! when i was around the age of 5 my mom had an asthma attack. i was sitting with her in her room and then all of a sudden she past out right before my eyes. of course i screamed and my sister)who was aware of what was happening) heard me and called 911,she was about 9. she was in a coma for i think 2 days and had to be in the hospital for 2 months. i dont know what i would do if i lost her.
When I was watching this episode, my boyfriend's mother at whom we live got her asthma attack, and I got very worried. I thought "I won't watch these episodes anymore!". (She has mild attacks and she took her meds and got ok. Normally I am not so worried about her.)
I have had asthma since I was a baby and now I am 21 years old I hate having asthma, but I know my limits I still do everything I can to live a normal life. On Halloween my dad's friend has a kind of scary walk for the kids she has for her family's Halloween party and I like the walk, but it is a long walk and then after that I feel like I need to use it more often. But, lately for the past 2-3 years I have been coughing and I don't know what causes it so I just try to live with the asthma.
The main reason why she survived was because, they were able to get a Doctor there with the medical training to be able to interbate her through her nose!
i have asthma i have had asthma since i was in 5th grade i am 22 years old now. i have been hospitalized several times. it is really and very scary when i have an asthma attack
I have savere asthma , it REALLY sucks :( it's like , water filling your lungs or sombody squeezing your lungs together , it's the worse feeling in the world i can tell you that.
im 14, i was on the way to my gym class and i ran a far way to get there. When i finally arrived a realized i left my inhaler at school. Just from being nervous i slowly started to wheeze. I asked a gym teacher to take me back to school, and a block before i arrived i couldnt walk because of my physical health. The gym teacher who knew what was going on and he ran to school. he actually brought a nebulizer and plugged it in at a store i went into when i stopped walking.
@MitchieG123 Don't be scared about asthema. If you keep an inhailer with you at all times, and always keep your perscriptions and expiary dates on track, you will be fine! I should know, i haven't had an asthema attack since i was 8 and i'm 14 now. :)
im having an asthma attack right now, and even though i had it pretty bad in the past i never had it this bad lol, anyways only one more hour and i will have my pills :D
I'm so glad I don't have asthma, the only thing I need to worry about, is my epilepsy, had it since I was 3, I usually blackout, when I have a seizure. I don't feel or remember anything. but I do feel light headed a few days after.
Watching this episode gave me the chilss. I had a friend that had asthma. wE went for a run b/c we ran cross country, and she somehow had trouble breathing. I thought she was having a heat stroke, but she was breathing heavily. Fortunately, I was able to get someone to call an ambulance. @vickiormindyb I find out, a week later, that the doc in question isn't even a whole doctor. He can't prescribe medication w/out using the Resident Physician's name.
One of the patients we treated got medication from him and a different doctor's name was on it.
I thought 'Well well. The things we learn later.'
The patient had a severe asthma attack and almost died. And she was even a teenager.
Oh wow now I know I have to tell a grown up when I can't talk or breath that bad.I really wish I didn't have asthma, but now I know how the teachers in my school rushed me to the nurse.I probably would of collapsed.Gob Bless!
I have asthma but I haven't had a reall dangerous attack since I was young. I went through almost everything this young lady had to except I was 8.(23 now) Its really scarey not being able to breathe, I actually remember passing out, next thing I know I was in the ER surrounded by a bunch of people.
@april00026000 No there isn't one. Probably something like 60 million Americans have it (I am sure the real number is far, far higher than the official number).
1:13 I can hear her wheezing without a stethoscope, I can only imagine how she would sound upon auscultation. Would probably blow the listener's eardrums out!
This happened 17 years ago tonight!! It was also a Friday night, as I remember going to a high school football game that night!! I can't believe it has been that long now!!
I had a similar case...I had a sevre asthma attack..I went to the ER and they said my vitals were so low that had I waited 5 more mins, I would have died. I was in the ICU for 3 days and in recovery for about 2 more...it was horrible....
yeh i know how she feels, i actually had an attack this bad not too long ago at school, just after sport, during full school assembly, i got up walked to a teacher and passed out not breathing, but the ambulance is only 5 minutes from our school, and i was so lucky that the ambulances werent out on call at the time. I was in ICU for 3 days intubated, then on BI-PAP for a week after that. its really not good at all, especially at school infront of the whole school, very embarrassing.
i was diagnosed with asthma when i was born. its very scarey and it is a severe problem when one cannot breathe. i have woken up in the middle of the night several times gasping for air, feeling like someone is choking you, aweful and feeling like no other!
I'm 13 and I have exercise enduced asthma. I had a baseball game today when the temperature was 102. I was running ALOT and my coach wasn't giving me a break. finally he saw me struggling and he said for me to go to the dugout. At that time I was breathing fast and hard and I couldnt breathe. with the heat I was about to pass out while I was having trouble breathing and everyone didn't seem to understand.. It felt like o was about to die..
I have severe asthma and this Almost happened to me 10 years ago. I had tgo have a friend drive me to The ER because I felt that I would Not make it when I had an asthma attack And had to miss a day of work and the ER gave me 4 breathing treatments And I moved to Arizona 5 years after That and it has helped. My advice for Those with severe asthma, move to Arizona. It will be the best thing for Asthma.
I had an really bad asthma attack this morning. it's horrible because you can feel your airways tightening up. and you can't talk properly , every word you say you have to take a breath after it. you feel sick and your legs go like jelly
my dads an asthmatic. im 13 and ive never seen him have an asma attack i guess hes really lucky cus he can ride a bike without running out of breath so hes really lucky that he doesent have strong asthma :/
I've lived with asthma my entire life. I've had nights when I woke up and thought about calling 911 because I couldn't breathe. I've never called, mostly because I'm too proud I guess, I drive myself to the hospital or get a friend to do it for me.
@OneSkiWonder As an EMT-Basic, an ER volunteer, the daughter of an asthma suffer, and someone who suffered asthma as a child, if you feel like you need to go to the hospital for an attack, please call 911! DO NOT drive yourself, it's not safe. The EMTs on the ambulances have medications and equiptment to help you. Don't worry about pride or "bothering" the EMTs. It's our job to help and it's no bother. My rule of thumb is: if you think you need to call 911, you probably should.
I just saw this girl have an asthma attack the other day at a concert one the bands was trying to get as many people as they could to crowd surf. I guess she was somewhere in the middle and got stuck and couldn't breath when everyone started pushing, jumping, and shoving. I was all the way in front and I just saw her being dropped by a security guard and she was on the floor shaking and gasping for air and her inhaler didnt help.
This is starting to scare me knowing I have been without a rescue inhaler for a few months now. Thankfully in a few days I have a doctor appointment and finally have medicade in addition to my crappy work insurance. Thanks to medicaid thats the only way i can afford my medication. I have some really crappy employee insurance and anyone with asthma knows how expensive the meds can be.
@GrumpyGal82 I know how you feel. My grandpa died from not only old age, but from the stress if trying to breath. He was one hell of a strong man though. he survived in hell itself! Being a POW in WW2 and then nearly bein killed when fighting a barn fire during his volunteer fireman days.
My grandfather was also a WWII veteran. He was a Marine pilot and he got shot down once during takeoff and crash landed on water. He's now blind from his history of diabities.
I have asthma for about 20 years since i was a baby! I never have had an asthma attack this bad but, I have had to go to the hospital because of it before. As of right now I have been coughing for like 2-4 months and it has not gone away yet and I do not know if it is because of asthma or what!!!!
I wonder if they used the same thing to finally get her asthma under control that it took to get mine controlled. Ad-vair Discus, that thing that looks like a space ship and has two different medicines in it.
They won't use it unless you can't get the asthma controlled with anything else. It's usually used as a last resort.
@warn81 it really is. When I have an asthma attack I know what's happening and I know I have everything in my house that I need to open up air ways i silll get so scared , but I try not to get nervous or cry...it takes away valuable oxygen.
@warn81 Really? I had a classmate that died of suicide and my mom made us go to his funeral. Even though she told us not to talk to him at school, she decides to tell us attending the funeral is necessary.
I'm sure his family thought we were terrible for suddenly becoming interested after it's too damn late.
But it was my mom's idea, and I couldn't go against her at 13 years old. Since she decided we were going.
A person who has asthma that bad usually has a spacer they can attach their inhaler to. It helps the medicine go in more effectively.
I have one, and my asthma isn't as bad as the girl's in this segment. It used to be really bad, just not THAT bad.
I used to be embarrassed too. Finding AngryAussie's videos helped me get over it. Now I just think like he does: If someone doesn't like me for a stupid reason they can get lost, go do their own thing.
i really enjoy this show i wish their was still a tv show like this on tv. this segment reminds me when i was babysitting my 7 yr old cousin that nite she took a asthuma attack i knew what to do my uncle and aunt said it was lucky i took a course on first aid i love my cousin so much and i am more close to then i ever was before
That last sentence "She never dreamed that this night would not be like any other" reminds me of September 10, 2001. The night in my life that marked an anniversary.
@davinp This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't watch his. He blocked me for no effing reason. I mean I don't mind being blocked for a reason, but I can't think of anything I've done to him.
I watch his videos that aren't already uploaded by someone else. Other than that I won't watch him.
@vickiormindyb Yes, Bassckit13 had blocked me and PredatorBrendan and we don't understand why. So, we don't watch his videos anymore. Not to mention he mis-spells words. Some of his videos are uploaded by others in better quality or without the missing parts

You should have seen the dr. I worked w/ today. I gave him some medical information I was aware of and he instantly disagreed w/ me.
So I said 'Well I'm just an EMT-P, and I know that's like nothing compared to a dr. . .'
Before I even finished he cheered right up.
I thought, Jiminy. I hate working w/ brand new doctors.

@NDNgirl4ever I am also an EMT-Basic.

I watched my grandpa in may 2008 suffocate to death because he refused to stop smoking. Its a horrible way to die.
GrumpyGal82 2 years ago 5

AliceCullen0890 2 years ago
I wonder if they used the same thing to finally get her asthma under control that it took to get mine controlled. Ad-vair Discus, that thing that looks like a space ship and has two different medicines in it.
They won't use it unless you can't get the asthma controlled with anything else. It's usually used as a last resort.
vickiormindyb 2 years ago
That's what I use too! It actually gave me a pretty bad attack at first but I haven't had even once since, so it's worth it.

I had a classmate that died of asthma...a very young boy. This is so scary....not being able to breathe.

@warn81 how old was this vewry young classmate?

It was a long time ago 7/8 early 90s'.
warn81 2 years ago
@warn81 it really is. When I have an asthma attack I know what's happening and I know I have everything in my house that I need to open up air ways i silll get so scared , but I try not to get nervous or cry...it takes away valuable oxygen.
Theultimatedemifan2 1 year ago
@warn81 I know!!!
I have had asthma since I was born.
Lostgetfound 1 year ago

Now I just think like he does: If someone doesn't like me for a stupid reason they can get lost, go do their own thing.
vickiormindyb 2 years ago 5
That's how it always is in any serious emergency.
On the night of October 7, 1980, we never dreamed my 6-yr. old sister would almost lose her life in a medical emergency.
I became a paramedic so I could help other patients and their families the way the EMTs helped us that night.
On other videos, people give me minuses when I talk about my sister, but that won't stop me from talking about it.
People who have experienced the terror of a true emergency will know what I mean. You never forget.

That last sentence "She never dreamed that this night would not be like any other" reminds me of September 10, 2001. The night in my life that marked an anniversary.

What a smart girl there...realizing what she was up to, and saved her own life before it was too late. How did the parents not hear it though???
I would have to guess she had some less-severe asthma attacks that prepared her for the big one...

@davinp This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't watch his. He blocked me for no effing reason. I mean I don't mind being blocked for a reason, but I can't think of anything I've done to him.
I watch his videos that aren't already uploaded by someone else. Other than that I won't watch him.
vickiormindyb 1 year ago
@vickiormindyb Yes, Bassckit13 had blocked me and PredatorBrendan and we don't understand why. So, we don't watch his videos anymore. Not to mention he mis-spells words. Some of his videos are uploaded by others in better quality or without the missing parts
