I just finally got to island 10 today. I had a bug in mine that would do the same thing yours did after finishing island 8. Unfortunately you have to delete it and re-install the app to fix it! After I re-installed mine, I was able to get to island 10, and there is an actual island!

On my jail broken iPod using iFile I browsed to the app directory and found the tiny wings folder found the directory within that contained the islands and made a duplicate of all of them and renamed them following the chronological order so now I have 18 islands but have only made it to the 12th stupid sunset

the reason its like that is because the creators didnt think people would make it. so when you actually make it past 9, the app couldnt find an file for round 10 so it was confused and when apps are confused, they freeze and crash.
