  • Good performance of a fantastic song, Gary makes it look effortless. But, being made to gaze deeply into Kevin Cronin's eyes just seems so...unnecessary.

  • great recovery song

  • Great song, but what's with the freakish close-ups of Kevin Cronin around 1:21 and 3:02?

  • @9Ballr Freakish camera work of all kinds seems to have been commonplace in the '60s and '70s!

  • Man I love this.

  • Loved the Midnight Special, and REO is one of the best bands of all time!

  • If I was in a wheelchair, this would be my theme song.

  • @BiothDaSloth Funny you should mention that. I happen to use a wheelchair and you hit the nail on the head. I do use it as an inspirational song. Not so much for the obvious "keep on rollin", but instead the, "roll with the changes." Meaning, in real life things don't always go as planned so you must always be ready to roll with it and make the best of any life changing event.

  • @ole9421 I'm glad you didn't take offense to it. And I'm glad you are able to make the best of unpredictable circumstances, unlike me. I don't like change very much. Have a pleasant day, friend.

  • @BiothDaSloth Take offense? No, no not at all. I knew what you meant. As far as not liking change? Neither do I, HA! Especially anything that has to do with a physical disability. Believe me I didn't find it easy to accept it at first. But it is amazing how after a while you learn to come to terms with it and decide to "roll with it". Peace brother.

  • @BiothDaSloth If I was in a wheelchair hearing this song live might just let me stand up and dance!

  • @reallyboardstiff lmao that would be awesome!

  • Do you think those mics were washed after each act?

  • Thumbs up if you dig the organ solo starting at 3:10.

  • You can tell Richrath was really feeling it that night!

  • this and the live aid version rock. gary could play it like no others.

  • Gary was awesome!

  • When the singer is looking at the camera he looks like Michael Palin from Monty Python, with a wig. lol Great song, guitarist is tearing it up.

  • Obamas playlist brought me here.

  • How GREAT was Midnight Special?!!!? You got to HEAR this great music & SEE the groups!!! And...IT WAS ON COMMERCIAL T.V.!!!!!!!! Seems like 100 yrs. ago.

  • @sweet2ooth4 Yep, I remember it well, man. Shows like this just don't exist anymore.

  • @schepler2 And...My dad was a Big Band era guy. He'd hear my music & just couldn't relate.Once in a while he'd hear Steely Dan or Chicago & say,"Now, that's good music".But he couldn't relate to Zep or Nugent. Now, I listen to some of the stuff out there & it makes me want to puke.Literally, so much of it seems to be churned out like candy on a conveyer belt.I'm sounding like an old- timer.Tomorrow I'll be chasing kids of the lawn w/ my cane!!!

  • @sweet2ooth4 Ha-ha! I know how you feel, man.

  • I am ashamed on the crowd LOL shame on 'em! they had NO clue!!

  • I remember seeing this when it was originally aired.

    Awesome

  • FUCK whitney this is real hair

  • How about the tall lanky jerk in the front row with his arms folded? What horrible hair too!

  • @Cervezasi Look at the woman next to him with her hands folded in front of her like she is at a dirge. They both look like they are constipated lmao. They must be a couple that got into an argument right before the performance! lol ha ha ha :) :D

  • One of Obama's favourites :D

  • I'll never get tired of Gary's sound. His LP through a Marshall stack...pure, simple and powerful. I loved his style and chops!

  • @chowdogz - Les Paul never had a clue about how his guitar would sound?!?!?!? Are you out of your bloody mind? How many f*cking Les Paul records do you own and how many times did you see him play? YOU have no clue about that man's stature or his monumental contribution to music. There wouldn't be rock and roll without Les Paul, and he knew exactly what the f#ck he was doing. REO Speedwagon isn't a hair on Les Paul's @ss, and they probably know it and would tell you the same thing.

  • @Waldovonerich Don't be an asshole...

    ...oops too late.

  • @bearmassaro You're even a bigger ignoramus than the other guy. You probably never knew that Les Paul was a person before he invented the guitar which bears his name.

  • @Waldovonerich Yep, enlighten us with your useless knowledge that even my Mother knows. Keep in mind, fool. You're not as knowledgable as you think you are. So lay off the smug...

  • @bearmassaro There's clearly not much that could enlighten the likes of you or your mother, since you've got nothing to bring to the table but meaningless insults, hurled for no purpose at someone who wasn't even addressing you. That, along with your inability to construct a sentence or comprehend a spellchecker, betrays your complete lack of breeding, experience, and education. You probably should have stayed in School after 6th Grade, even if you did have to repeat it a few times.

  • @Waldovonerich

Now I know you're not addressing me like that, you low-watt little punk.

I leave one "A" out of one word? Go fuck yourself, bitch...

  • @bearmassaro I realize you've got nothing intelligent to say, I think I made that clear. Your pimples are showing, Sonny.

  • @Waldovonerich

You BORE me. I grow BORED by you.

In other words, I laugh at your inferior intellect.

No go play with your GI Joes & leave the actual commenting to the ADULTS.

Because it's pretty apparant, you're nothing more than a little child in need of a decent slap...

  • @bearmassaro Still haven't got spellcheck figured out there, Little Guy? You don't sound any more convincing than you do intelligent. You really ought to go have a talk with your mama about all the things she forgot to teach you, and go buy a new tube of Clearasil while you're at it.

  • @Waldovonerich

Wow, still carrying on after a whole week, huh?

I forgot all about you already. Must be nice to have no life.

Get outside, it's a nice day out. Stop being such a loser...

  • Comment removed

  • @desertswo Are they removing the intelligent comments on here these days?

  • Am I the only one who thinks this song was a rip off of "Love The One Youre With" by Stephen Stills?

  • @polycarpx - No, the influence is beyond heavy, right down to it being in the same key with the Hammond Organ ride.

  • @Waldovonerich

Stop pretending like you know anything about music, okay?

You just come off sounding like a retard...

  • Gary Had A Coke Problem,He was FIRED from REO by Kevin I know this as i did coke with gary back in the 80's in Columbus,Ohio after one of their shows there.

  • @MrFatboy361 He is still an amazing guitarist and REO never sounded the same without him. Your a snitch and tell aren't ya ? If he had a coke problem his music never suffered and I do not believe ya!<3 I saw them during this time period, Kevin looked glassy eyed and coked out himself...!!!!!! Quit hating

  • @gemgrl24 nobodys hatin on any thing, just was giving facts about gary richrath and why he was no longer in r.e.o.and i am not a tell all as you call it.i'm 51 yrs old and been a roadie for cols.local bands and for judas preist so i do know what i'm talkin about been there done that and also been in the music industry so no hatin here!!!!!

  • keep on rolling REO!

  • Richrath is insanely good.

  • REO with GARY. I llllllloooove it. Great, grat guitar solo. Wonderful song

  • Thank you REO for making such wonderful music. God Bless.

  • Gary Ritchrath will always be reo to me!

  • Luv seein' Gary in action...

    Too bad he bailed...

  • such a kick ass song

  • Gary Ritchrath...one of the MOST underated players of the last 25 years...he is and ALWAYS will be REO......any version WITHOUT him is garbage.....saw them 2xs back in the early 80s..and he just stole the show each time....i think that was one of the reasons he and Kevin (i call him Kevin the DOUCHEBAG)DIDNT GET ALONG...IT WAS FOR SURE PERSONALITYS...

  • This is classic kick ass rock music!!

  • Gary Richrath tears it up..............

  • REO Speedwagon makes Justin Bieber look manly.

  • What's With All The Footage Of Gary And Kevin?

  • Probably their best song!

  • @briantravelman

Yeah, I agree. This song got to me from the first time I heard it.

It's really joyous. And the guitar playing is perfect- technically interesting but never stinting on rock 'n roll energy.

  • @briantravelman Nah Riding the storm out was there best song!!

  • KJ now who is stupid?Relax and enjoy.

  • I saw them in Ames,Iowa Dec. 31st 1979.At midnight they came out and said "Welcome to 1980" lol,it was great.

  • Ha... flyers/rangers 24/7 ! Great placement of the song !!!! Forgot how much I loved this.

  • Wow. Sounds so clean live. Great song and band.

  • GARY. RICHRATH

  • That fucker plays a mean guitar.

  • Thumbs up if you heard this on Rangers Flyer 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic 2012!!!

  • This is one of the few instances where he does not sing in that high pitched whiny voice. He should go back to this kind of sound!

  • didn't know Howard Stern played with REO. LOL. all in all, this is one of my favorite tunes of all time

  • classic

  • 11 people cannot roll with the changes.

  • @ShikataGaNai100 Anyone can roll with the chances!

  • This is one of the best. The guitar solos just drip with awesomeness. The keyboards rock. The harmonies soar. I just wish all REO songs were this good.

  • What happened to everyone having great hair like this?

  • The Midnight Special was MTV without all the fluff!

  • One of my all time favorites. Gary Richrath is a very under-rated guitarist. In my eyes he's one of the greats with his own style and riffs.

  • Heheh, look at the one pissy guy in the front with his arms crossed. Either he's got CRAP for musical taste, or he just Knows his girlfriend's gonna be sleeping with the band after that concert.

  • 11 people don't know what great MUSIC is supposed to sound lie...dickheads.

  • I Love The Sqeal Of That Guitar Lol

  • Such a great band. My oldest brother used to go see them in a little bar called The Woodshed in Burlington IA way back in the early 70's.

  • I'm fuckin' bawling, and my brand new headphones SUCK!!!! lol

  • Gary Richrath: "hey guys, the coke's on me tonight!"

  • @1251wire That was cold, man. lol

I ain't ashamed to admit, I've blown two complete LIVES 'that way', and I can say for sure, these boys did not.

  • @CaninAble just busting balls bro, i have sweet memoirs of reo's hi infidelity and some of their earlier work, & you ain't gotta tell me about the snow man, i had a stripper girlfriend (who hasn't had one?) she'd snort all night and had me buy her white zinfandel at 8 am to "come down" with a few doobies, i just partook on the doobs since i hated coke man, i'd get instant diarrhea and wanted to lock myself in the closet... sweet, sweet memories bro.

Canada is all fucking right bro.

    Take care.

  • @CaninAble I agree with ya. That is just one of the many reasons -drug usage- as to why they broke up. Been there done that. :)

  • This was off what I think was their best album - "You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tune a Fish" - we used to call it the "dead fish' album because of the cover - big fish with a tuning fork in his mouth.... great band, great sense of humor!

  • Great band!

  • Great song but was there a band other than Kevin and Curly on lead? Brutal

  • I'm amazed at all the asinine comments here. FACT: Gary Richrath was NOT forced out/fired. He chose to leave. FACT: Richrath is welcome back in the band ANYTIME he decides he wants to return. FACT: Hi Infidelity, and the change in musical direction, was to please a label that was dropping REO after years of lackluster sales. And it worked, right? How many REO fans would never have heard this song or the early catalog if not for Hi Infidelity and the subsequent releases? Sheesh!

  • Was this Kevin Cronin? Band lineups all seem to run together for me...

  • How these people could stay seated during this is beyond me.

  • I think this is the stuff that my wife doesn't want me to look at on the internet. At least it feels like it is...

  • They just don't make music like this anymore..

    KEEP ON ROLLIN'!!

  • Seems that when KC got his nose done, it raised his voice an octave..

  • That must have been uncomfortable for KC... that camera got too extreme of close up

  • Stands with a fist loves dances with wolves

  • Les Paul never had a clue that his guitar could sound this good....

  • Epic!

  • This is when Music was MUSIC...

  • New Album coming out in Nov. Gary is on the cover.G;ad that he is back. Kevin: what are you staring at in this video....... certainly wasn't the camera.

  • New Album coming out in Nov. Gary is on the cover.G;ad that he is back.

  • REO,祝!’70年代作品紙ジャケ化!!

    DSDマスタリングで音質バッチリです。

  • Damn that was uplifting!

  • YEOW! Good ol' rock 'n roll!

  • the camera moves in way too close to kevin cronin's face for comfort

  • This song is such a beast!!!!!

  • Gary Rickrath larger than life in this performance. What a monster he was!

  • Gary was one of the best guitar players ever. Man I miss this time. This was the greatest show, all live,no recorded shit like today. Cant touch this today. Gary was an awesome player.

  • @MegaBob77777 you are 100% right......

  • Am I wrong,or just misled? Is Gary the most awsome guitarist ever? Mabey? Someone? Buler? Buler?

  • @sonarofthesouth ...he was great, but no where near the best....

  • before the days of auto-tuned vocals and playing "live" along to recorded tracks. Those were the days my friend, I wish they'd never end....

  • This song makes me vomit rainbows. >.>

    I absolutely love it.

  • LOL why does he end almost every sentence with an A?

  • I Love The Fucking Squeal Of That Guitar Fuckin EH!

  • As soon as you are able, woman, I am willing!!

  • I think this is a great way to handle two pianists at the same time.

  • @7777anastasia

The singer is playing the PIANO, the other is playing the HAMMOND ORGAN, different instruments.

  • That guy has a whole nother set of lungs in a trunk back stage.

  • Whenever I see such talented piano players/singers, I wonder if their mom's had to fight with them when they were little to practice for their lessons? LOL...I hated piano lessons, but obviously then you think of groups like REO, Steely Dan, and singers like Elton John and Billy Joel, you know they had to be sittin' on that bench with a fussy piano teacher making them practice the music and scales over and over and over again! PAID OFF!!

  • These guys were "professional" musicians something that has been lost these days. These guys could play the song live and it sounded just like the radio. Now days its all lip syncing and no real professionalism...and yes....I seen REO in concert and it was awesome!!

  • Great song haven't heard in a while, thank you.

    ~Expect Miracles

    Shane

  • Wow, he can really jam on that keyboard, plus singing at the same time. It's way harder than people think!

  • looks like carrot-top playing the guitar

  • God all mighty! The way Gary works that Les Paul is in-fucking-credible. Now you'll excuse me while I pour myself another shot and rewatch this LIVE performance again. WooHoo!

  • Look at all of these stupid kids in the audience, they have no idea the level of greatness that they just witnessed.

  • @kjgallagher4 You've got it exactly the opposite, every one of them knows the greatness they witnessed and if they didn't know it at the time they surely do now.

  • @kjgallagher4 Ha! We knew exactly what level of greatness we were witnessing. We're the generation that witnessed some of the greatest rock music ever produced. REO Speedwagon, Bob Segar, Fleetwood Mac, Areosmith....the list goes on & on and we were lucky enough to see their birth!

  • @kjgallagher4 I think I saw one kid who could tell.

  • @kjgallagher4 Are you sure you do? You just wasted the moment to insult a whole group of people.

  • Justin Bieber 4 Life

  • Who are these people who write 'this and that guy is underrated' ? Do you have any idea how famous all these 'underated' world famous rich musicians are ? Laugh

  • Gary Richrath is the man!!!!! INSANE TONE!!!!

  • Just saw REO in concert. Truly Incredible

  • @CheesyWobbles YOU KNOW IT!

  • @CheesyWobbles was a lucky man

  • Sheesh!!! Powerful stuff. What would I give to have hair like that!

  • Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaa gary isnt underrated,We were all there !!!!!!

  • I love that tone of a REAL 58 LEs Pul thro a JMP Marshall AWESOME

  • gary is the best ever

  • Totally agree - Gary is way underrated and what a great band REO was with Gary!

  • Classic 80's arena rock

  • Waitin for Kevin to eat the mic

  • this band has NEVER been the same without GARY......he IS REO!!!!!......

  • Richrath pulls some really cool tricks in this performance. The camera is not on him when he does this one but at about 1:23 to 1:29, (my best guess) he bends the low E string at the 12th fret for about 2 or 3 beats and then immediately after, bends up on the high E string also at the 12th fret to make the guitar scream at high pitch. Unless someone else knows different, I think that's how he's doing that trick.

  • Gary Richrath at his finest. Awesome; thank you for posting!

  • Comment removed

  • I really love the guitar but a sarong ?

  • Gary is a decent guitarists, but he was known as the king of the one chord for his lack of sonic range.

  • @datinsky69 That would be because of the material REO became known for in the '80s, not because of his talent. I remember in junior high, these guys were rockers; in high school they were chick music.

  • You see this, kids? Music with no lip-synching, no dance routines or back-up dancers, no pre-recorded instrumental tracks, and NO AUTO TUNE SOFTWARE. This is raw talent. Rock and Roll at it purest and most splendid. THANK YOU Kevin, Gary, Alan, Neil, and Bruce!!!!

  • Looks like we have 9 idiots who don't know a good song when they hear one

  • These guys performed at my fair :3

  • what a vocalist!

  • Is that Carrot Top on lead guitar?

  • @michael72986 yeah, it is.

  • I didn't know Howard Stern could sing that well.

  • Guitarist sounds a lot like another great Gibson player - MICK TAYLOR!

  • Mid-west bands do not get enough credit when compared to their Southern counterparts.

  • Beautiful. They're in my top 2. Thanks for this! \m/

  • this is a KICK ASS performance!!!!!

  • This band hasn't been the same since Gary Richrath left.

  • @Mainrollman Ditto

  • Gary tears this up! One of the most underated guitarists ever!
